B.Sc. (Hons.) in Forestry - Batch of 2018
Offered by SHUATS - Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences

Overall the course is good if you are interested in it or else don't waste money on it.
Placements: Only a less number of students, i.e., 1-3 students out of 120 got placed from college. The college did not have initiative for internships, and you have to apply by yourself. Roles in this course offered are not diverse. Students are selected sometimes for marketing, which they have no idea.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure and facilities provided by the college were average. Forest nursery is very large and well maintained. Wi-Fi has no signal. Labs and classrooms were good. Library had very old books. They should add new collections to the library. Hostels were average. The condition of the old hostel condition was bad, but the new hostel was good. Food served in the mess was average.
Faculty: Teachers in our college were helpful except a few. Some teachers don't take classes and send their assistants to teach. They are strict regarding attendance. The course curriculum needs to be updated as very new technologies like remote sensing, etc., have arrived, of which students have no idea.
Other: One of the best parts of the entire campus was its crowd which was very diverse. Lots of events and activities were held in various departments. The course curriculum should be broader, and practicals should be more focused.

The course and campus are good, but there is a lack of opportunities when you once get graduated.
Placements: Placements in our college are on the lower side. The overall salary package offered to the students ranges from 2-3 LPA. M.Sc students are given preference her. Roles like product inspection are offered to the students. Students generally opt for an off-campus internship. Top recruiting companies visit our college vary from year to year. At our time, Greenply company visited our college for placements, but seniors were also allowed to attend for selection.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are good. Wi-Fi connection is provided, but the network issue makes it worthless. The library needs news book, but overall its condition is good. Labs are small, but good and need to be upgraded. The hostel facility is average. Mess and canteen are average. Medical facilities are good here.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are NET qualified, but some are PhD holders. Few teachers teach well. Students have to study on their own. The course curriculum is less relevant, and it doesn't make students industry-ready. Students have to work on their own to upgrade their skills to make themselves industry-ready.
Other: I have chosen this course because I wanted agriculture allied subject in my graduation. The campus crowd is vibrant. Many extracurricular activities are conducted at our college by various departments.

There are various advantages and disadvantages. Opportunities are less, but the environment is good.
Placements: As our college claimed that it conducts the placement session at the end of the year, it didn't conduct. Only seniors are allowed to attend placements, and juniors do not even get a notice that companies are going to visit for placements. I have heard that the salary package offered is very low. Generally, roles offered here as inspecting or cultivating forest. Students have to apply for internships outside the campus on their own. Our college doesn't provide such facilities and doesn't inform about internships to students to do.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is average. The library needs to be provided with new books with updated editions, and labs are not up to the mark as sufficient equipment is not available. Lab rooms are also very small, but the classrooms are good. Wi-Fi facility is available, but there are network issues on the entire campus. Hostel facilities are above average, and there are air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned rooms. The food served in the canteen is good, and medical facilities are good. Sports facilities are much better, as our college organises various tournaments.
Faculty: Though teachers are well qualified, hardly they are interested in teaching and just provide printed notes. However, few teachers are interested in teaching, but their quality of teaching is not good. The course curriculum is not relevant because opportunities are low. It does not make students industry-ready.
Other: I have chosen this course because I was interested in studying the nature of the forest. The best thing about our course is the practical part, and there is a huge nursery. I wish that our college should upgrade the course curriculum. Few fests organised here are mostly regional fests. The campus crowd is the best part as there are students from different parts of India.

It is a good place to study and provides better opportunities to bring holistic development in life.
Placements: Very few companies visited the campus for forestry graduates. It is preferred for the students to pursue higher education for better growth in their career. Being the only graduate would be a hindrance for many job roles in future. So better get specialised in a particular field.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very good. All the labs and facilities are available. The entire campus is Wi-fi enabled. We have an air-conditioned central library where one could study the whole day. There are 4-5 canteens available, and medical facilities are also provided. Sports facilities are also available where one could take part in different types of sports activities.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are very helpful, and they don't put much burden on students. There is no pressure like situation, where students could be without much burden and pursue his studies. It also depends on students to be very much mindful of his interest, so that teachers could guide them.

Currently pursuing but I am very sad and disappointed with the college.
Placements: I am currently doing this course. There were placements till 2014 but after that they stopped calling companies. Many students were not even able to answer a question like, “what is a forest?”
Infrastructure: Infra is average. Hostels are bad, especially the new hostels. Washrooms are the worst. Some rooms have never even seen the sunlight. Old hostels’ bathrooms are good. International hostels are very good. Mess is very bad.
Faculty: No teacher is ever interested to take the classes. They are lazy, they just sit in the staff room and do not come to the classes. Many teachers teach from their mobiles using Google and many teachers were placed because they have high ties.
