Although admission to BE/ BTech programme at TIET is conducted through JEE Main.  Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores as well as merit for admisison to the BE/ BTech courses. Based on the JEE Main score and Class 12 scores, candidates are then called for the TIET Counselling process. Admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling is done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main 2023 as a tie breaker. During the counselling, Branch allocation is as per the Category, followed by JEEMain/ Class 10 + Class 12 PCM wise, seat availability, merit, and branch preference order filled in
the application form.

Thapar University offers a four-year full-time BE courses covering several specialisations, including Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering, among others. TIET BE admission is based on JEE Main scores, followed by an online counselling process. TIET BE cutoff 2023 has been released. As per Thapar University JEE Main Round 1 cutoff 2023, candidates securing a rank betweeb 70000 and 85000 are eligible to get a seat a at TIET for BE in Electrical and Computer Engineering programme.

Thapar University offers MBA programmes via the LM Thapar School of Management. Admissions are currently open for Thapar University Patiala MBA courses. Candidates seeking admission must apply online before its last date. To be eligible for Thapar University MBA admission, students are required to have a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum aggregate of 50% or equivalent CGPA or corresponding grade secured from a recognised University/Institute. Candidates with a post-graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum aggregate of 50% are also eligible to apply for MBA admission. 

Thapar University offers a BBA programme for a duration of three years. To be eligible for BBA admission, candidates must have passed Class 12 with an aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ST students). Candidates with any 3-year Diploma after Class 10 (60% aggregate) with an adequate scores in any of the following English Language Test (English Proficiency Test) are also eligible to apply for TIET BBA admission: 

Thapar University offers a two-year full-time MCA course at the postgraduate level. To be eligible for Thapar University MCA admission, candidates must have a Bachelors degree of a minimum 3 years duration in any discipline from a recognised University with a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ST) in aggregate. For TIET MCA admission, it is also mandatory that a student must have studied Mathematics at Class 12 level or at the graduation level. It is necessary that each course aspirant meet the course-specific eligibility criteria. Hence, the applicant must have passed Class 12 with an aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ST students) Or a three-year Diploma in the relevant stream. Moreover, the university may relax requirements for candidates with extraordinary achievements in the areas of sports, Music, Dance and Painting, Social Work, Software Development, etc. with passing marks in Class 12. Thapar University offers four-year full-time BE/BTech courses at the undergraduate level. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology admission to all the BE/BTech courses is based on candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam except BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. TIET BTech admission to Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering is based on valid NEET 2023 marks, followed by a counselling process. TIET 50% of the seats will be filled basis of NEET scores and the rest 50% of the seats shall be filled on the basis of merit of marks obtained in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and, Biology.

Yes, Thapar University follows a seat reservation policy for MBA courses according to the authorised government's seat reservation policy. The seats are reserved for the following categories, such as SC/ST, North Eastern, J &K migrant, NRI and 50 % Punjab Residents. Thapar University does not offer MBA seats through management quota, one has to follow the complete admission procedure and eligibility criteria to get admission to MBA courses. 

Thapar University offers a two-year full-time MCA course at the postgraduate level. The total seat intake for TIET MCA course is 35 including 5 FN/ NRI seats. In addition to the mentioned seats, 1% over and above seats are reserved for children of employees of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology. In case of a tie among candidates securing equal marks in the Thapar University MSc merit list, the same will be broken in accordance with the following criteria: 

• Candidates senior in age shall rank higher in order of merit. 
• In the case of a tie in age also, a candidate getting a higher percentage of marks in the qualifying examination shall be ranked higher in order of merit. 
•  In the case of a tie in percentage of marks in the qualifying examination also, a candidate securing a higher percentage of marks in matriculation/secondary or equivalent examination shall rank higher in order of merit. 

The eligibility criteria for MBA admissions in most colleges require a minimum percentage in graduation degree. Most MBA colleges select candidates based on the scores of national or state-level entrance exams. Thapar University MBA course admission requires students to have passed Masters with a minimum aggregate of 50% aggregate to apply. However, selection to the course is entrance-based. Students must secure a valid score in entrance exams such as CAT, SNAP, MAT, etc. and go through the counselling process. Candidates can also pursue MBA at colleges offering Online MBA courses. Candidates are required to appear for the CAT examination first before selecting MBA courses at Thapar University. Apart from the CAT entrance examination, candidates can also apply for any of these entrance exams MAT, SNAP. XAT, NMAT and CMAT. MAT 2024 registration for August was over. The next phase of exams was completed in December 2024. The schedule of MAT 2024 registration for the December phase had started at the AIMA official website. The MAT PBT, CBT and IBT form submission deadlines of each session are usually different. The cutoff for the MBA course at Thapar University in 2025 has not been released by the university yet. However, according to the given closing scores of NMAT for academic years 2023 and 2024, the ranks were the same.
