Thapar University offers a four-year full-time BE/BTech course in Computer Science & Engineering at the undergraduate level. TIET offers a BTech CSE programme with a total seat intake of 180 students. The total tuition fee for TIET BTech CSE course is INR 14.58Lacs (As per an unofficial source). Talking about the placement of Thapar University BTech course, the median package offered was INR 8 LPA during TIET placements 2021. Considering the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2023, TIET was ranked 20 in the Engineering category. So, considering all these factors TIET is not a bad option for BTech CSE admission.

Thapar University admission to BE/BTech courses is both entrance and merit-based. TIET 50% seats will be filled on the basis of candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam and the rest 50% is based on the merit of marks secured in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. So, for JEE-qualified candidates, the minimum eligibility is to pass Class 12 or equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ ST candidates). Candidates applying on the basis of their Class 12 marks must have passed the examination with not less than 70% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates).

Although admission to BE/ BTech programme at TIET is conducted through JEE Main.  Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores as well as merit for admisison to the BE/ BTech courses. Admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling is done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main 2023 as a tie breaker. During the counselling, Branch allocation is as per the Category, followed by JEEMain/ Class 10 + Class 12 PCM wise, seat availability, merit, and branch preference order filled in
the application form.

Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. Apart from JEE Main, TIET also accepts CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE/ Thapar Entrance Test for MBA and GATE for ME/ M.Tech admission. 

As per the official statistics, a year-on-year increase was observed in the total offers made from 2021 to 2023 drives. Likewise, an improving trend was recorded in the total number of students placed over the past three years. The total number of offers increased by nearly 39% from 2021 to 2022 and then further increased slightly from 2022 to 2023. On the other hand, the number of students placed increased by almost 31% from 2021 to 2022 and then increased by nearly 11% from 2022 to 2023.

TIET admission process includes the submission of the application form, entrance test, release of merit list, counselling process and final fee payment process. Step 1: Thapar University Application Process 2025

The very first step of the admission process is to visit the official website of the University to fill out the application form. The TIET application process is conducted in online mode. Candidates have to register through the official website of TIET to apply for any of the programmes. Follow the below-mentioned steps for the complete TIET application process:

Step 1.1: Visit the official website of TIET. 

Step 1.2: Click on “Admission 2025” and register yourself. 

Step 1.3: Fill out the application form by entering the required academic and personal details.

Step 1.4: Upload a scanned photo of the qualifying exam mark sheet and a passport-size photograph.

Step 1.5: Pay the application fee online via debit/ credit card or net banking.

• Transfer certificate

Step 2: Appear for the Entrance Test

In the next step, candidates are required to appear for the entrance test i.e. JEE Main/ NEET for Thapar University BTech admission. If candidates have a valid score in JEE Main or NEET they need to mention their scores in the TIET application form. 

Step 3: Declaration of the Merit List

Based on the marks secured in the entrance test, TIET release the merit list of selected students for the counselling round. The merit list released by the University includes the name of the students along with their entrance test scores, category and allocated branch name. 

Step 4: Counselling Process & Fee Payment 

The next step is to appear for the counselling process. Candidates whose names appear in the provisional merit list released by the University are only eligible to appear for the counselling round.
