Each year, Vellore Institute of Technology offers scholarships in the form of tuition waivers and freeships. While merit scholarships are awarded to class toppers, economically challenged students are provided need-based financial assistance. Furthermore, NRI and foreign students are given scholarships upon presenting meritorious records. Students from rural backgrounds who secure top ranks in VITEEE at the district level (in Tamil Nadu only) are given free education.
Students who wish to pursue MTech are also given scholarships, given that they score well in the GATE exam. In addition, scholarships are given to students who excel in sports and games. Financial assistance is also provided to students who wish to do their project work in partner universities and institutions abroad, under the Semester Abroad Programme (SAP). In order to encourage the students to pursue active research, VIT also awards appropriate research associateships to meritorious and needy students.
VIT Vellore Scholarship Types
Although scholarships at VIT Vellore are based on need and means, a majority of scholarship schemes offered at the institute level are mainly merit-based.
- GV School Development Programme (GVSDP) – Toppers of State/ Central board along with VITEEE rank holders are given tuition fee waivers of 100% for up to four years. The table below shows the bifurcation of tuition fee waivers against the total merit:

Students applying for admissions at VIT Vellore (enrolled in BTech/ BDes) will have to pay the below-mentioned amount per year (after deduction of scholarship amount).

- Scholarship under STARS (Support the Advancement of Rural Students) – Top 10 students from rural government schools, who are eligible for admission and have a family income of INR 1.5 LPA will get a 100% fee waiver for their academic and hostel facilities including basic medical expenses.

Eligible students with meritorious records in State/ Central board examinations or VITEEE rank holders will be required to present marksheet/ copy of marksheet or VITEEE scorecard along with all the other relevant documents while applying.
