Annamalai University PhD Admission 2021

Annamalai University PhD admissions are conducted twice a year in December and June. The programme is offered in full-time, part-time (internal) and part-time (external) modes for a duration of a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years. Scholars, who do not submit the thesis within the maximum duration of the programme, can apply for an extension of time three months prior to the completion of six years. In such cases, a maximum grace period of one year, beyond the normal maximum period is granted. The details regarding types of PhD programme are as follows:

• Full-time PhD programme: Candidates, under the full-time mode, need to do research work on the University campus only. The full-time PhD scholars need to report daily in the department at least during the office hours of the University and they should sign every day in the attendance register at the respective place of research.
• Part-time (Internal) PhD programme: Research scholars under this category are those who are presently employed on regular basis in this University at the time of applying for the PhD programme. Those who have joined as assistant professors with MPhil/ ME/ MTech/ MPharm/ MSc (Agriculture)/ MSc (Horticulture)/ MD/ MS/ MDS/ MPT/ MSc (Nursing)/ MSc (Food & Nutrition) are permitted to register for PhD programme after one year from the date of joining in the post. Faculty members, who do not have an MPhil degree, shall be allowed to register for the PhD programme after two years from the date of joining in the post, whereas, the non-teaching faculty can join after five years of tenure at the University.
• Part-time (External) PhD programme: The University admits candidates under the part-time external category. The part-time candidates need to register under a research supervisor who is a full-time teaching faculty of Annamalai University. The Part-time candidate should be employed as an assistant professor/ associate professor/ professor in a recognised college/ university where facilities for carrying out research work are available. Further, such candidates should possess minimum qualifications for applying for PhD programme. 

For PhD admission at Annamalai University, an entrance test at PG level for 70 marks, followed by an interview of 30 marks is conducted. The candidates, who secure 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD candidates) in entrance test and interview put together, are eligible for admission. Candidates, with an MPhil degree from an approved University, UGC-JRF/ NET/ SLET/ SET/ GATE/ CSIR/ ICHR/ ICPR/ ICSSR-qualified candidates and teacher fellowship holders, are exempted from the entrance test but they have to appear for the interview.

In addition to the above-mentioned doctoral programmes, Annamalai University offers a six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and a three-year Doctor of Pharmacy Post Baccalaureate. The annual tuition fee for both programmes is Rs 31,180. Candidates, who wish to apply for more than one course offered by Annamalai University, are required to fill separate application forms for each course. Step 1: Visit the official website of Annamalai University (www.annamalaiuniversity.ac.in). On its homepage, click on “Admissions On-Campus Portal”.

Step 2: On the left menu of the landing page, click on 'Application Online' link that opens a drop-down menu.

Step 3: Click on the stream containing the programme for which you wish to apply. On clicking the stream tab, a new page opens up.

Step 4: On this page, the prospectus of all the programmes is available, followed by registration links. Click on the programme for which you wish to apply under the 'New Applicant' tab.

Step 5: The registration page opens up. Register by filling in details, including name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, etc. Also, create an alpha-numeric password for future logins. Hit the ‘Submit’ button once done.

Annamalai University Scholarships 2021

Annamalai University offers multiple scholarships to the students based on merit, category and community. Most of the Annamalai University scholarships are as per the norms set by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Some of these popular scholarships are enlisted below:

• Application fee concession to SC/ ST and converted Christian students: Entrance/ Course application fee concession is granted to students belonging to SC/ ST community and converted Christians by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
• Tuition fee concession to SC/ ST and converted Christian students: Full tuition fee concession is granted to students belonging to SC/ ST community and converted Christians under rule 92 of Tamil Nadu Education Rules by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
• Post-Matric Scholarship: Covering special fees, examination fees and maintenance charges will be awarded to students belonging to SC/ ST Community provided guardian’s income from all sources does not exceed Rs 50,000 per annum (Rs 2.5 LPA for ST and Rs 2 LPA for converted Christians).
• Higher Education Special Scholarship: Higher Education Special Scholarship is awarded to hostel students belonging to SC/ ST and converted Christian communities with annual parental income less than Rs 2.5 LPA. The number of scholarships is limited by the Government.
• Fee concession to blind students: Under this scheme, full tuition fee concession is granted to blind students irrespective of community provided that the annual parental income does not exceed Rs 24,000.
• Scholarships for women students pursuing PG programme: This scholarship is awarded to PG students belonging to SC/ ST community studying under the faculty of Arts/ Science.
• First Graduate Tuition Fee Concession: The government of Tamil Nadu has ordered to grant tuition fee concession to the candidates who are to be the First graduate in a family
