Law students at LPU pledge to eradicate corruption

For hundreds of its law students, the Law School at LPU - Lovely Professional University arranged a lecture on "Integrity-A way of life." SSP Economic Offences Wing (Vigilance Commission, Punjab) Gautam Singal, PPS was the resource person for this important topic. Law students were taught about the procedure for filing complaints against public servants. Students were also told of the authorities' procedures to remove bribery from the heart. LPU students also interacted on corruption and corrupt practices with the elite speaker. Students had an integrity commitment to prevent corruption in public offices at the end of the session. Prior to this, Head of the Law School Dr Meenu Chopra received the elite police officer at the School.

Indeed, the Central Vigilance Commission recently observed' Vigilance Week,' where the main goal remained to educate common people and students about Vigilance Bureau's efforts to prevent corruption in public offices. It also aimed to encourage people to report corrupt practices by government employees to the Vigilance Bureau.

A post-graduate London School of Economics (LSE), SSP Singal shares: "My focus is on upholding human rights in police work. The reliability of the communication between the police and the public is not good in India. Poor performance combined with abuse of power on the professional front is the large factor contributing to the poor image of the police. It may be in case filing, questioning of the accused / suspects including women, custodial-violence, use of force to preserve law & order, and more. In India, the common man is still searching for a humane police face and just responding to his problems. Police is the only government department that that frequently and regularly stays in contact with public. So, the police must be sensitive towards the community’s needs and the citizens’ rights.”

Former UN Police Officer at the United Nations Stabilization Mission in various countries, Mr Singal is currently overseeing and conducting investigations into cases of corruption by government employees in the form of demanding or accepting illegal gratification, misuse of official positions for personal financial gains and amassing assets disproportionately to known sources
