LPU rewards 250 students with study grant worth Rs 4 crore

In a bid to help meritorious students achieve their dreams without financial constraints coming in the way, LPU - Lovely Professional University (LPU), rewarded around 250 students with the LPUNEST Study Grant worth Rs 4 crore. This grant has been specially instituted by LPU from this year for students from financially-weak backgrounds, who have qualified for India’s leading educational institutions such as Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), National Law Universties (NLUs), Institutes Hotel Management (IHMs) and National Institutes of Fashion Technology (NIFTs). For its own students, the university already offers several scholarships.

The study grant was disbursed Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.  A grant of Rs. 2.5 lakh each was awarded to over 120 students who qualified for leading technology institutes such as IITs, NITs, NIDs, NIFTs and IIITs. Over 120 students who qualified for IHMs, NLUs and IIIDMs were awarded Rs 1 lakh each, while six students who qualified for IIMs were awarded Rs 3 lakh each.

Union Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said, “No talented student should be deprived of high-quality education due to lack of funds. Yet, it is a sad reality that there are several students who are unable to take admissions at institutes of their choice owing to financial challenges. This Study Grant by Lovely Professional University is a fantastic initiative and will enable hundreds of students to achieve their dream of attaining quality education. I wish more institutions emulate this.”

The University extends Scholarships to its students on various parameters such as performance in qualifying examinations (10+2 or graduation), LPU National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST), sports, cultural, R & D, co-curricular, social service and bravery awards. There are other special scholarships also for orphans, physically handicapped or students from Defense and Armed Services background. The University has now decided to reward deserving and meritorious students, even from outside the university, under the LPUNEST Study Grant. The focus of LPUNEST Study Grant is to further establish its commitment towards rewarding deserving and meritorious students.
