The Shiksha conducted a poll recently to identify which course students are aiming for and choosing more to get admission into Mumbai University. The options that were available were MBA, BTech, BSc, MCom and others. Among the above-mentioned courses, from 470 votes, 40% of students opted for BSc, which shows the students are willing to get admission into Mumbai University BSc courses. Mumbai University offers over 2,000 UG, PG, diploma, doctoral and certificate programmes in various fields such as Engineering, Arts, Science, Management, Accounting, Law, Library Sciences, Fine Arts & Performing Arts among various others. Yes, BTech is available in Mumbai University. The University of Mumbai offers four-year BE or BTech programmes via more than 60 affiliated colleges. The course is available across 18 specialisations. Which Course is Best at Mumbai University?

Shiksha ran a survey to determine the best course, and 188 out of 470 students chose BSc. However, with corresponding scores of 23% and 9%, BTech and MBA also occupy a strong place. Furthermore, 23% of the students chose additional options, which may include different UG & PG courses. BSc almost surpasses all the courses the university offers. BSc courses for three years and four years, and integrated BSc + MSc courses in various specialisations through more than 700 affiliated colleges.

Mumbai University Popular Courses

The courses that were mentioned in the poll’s options and chosen by the students are popular programmes of Mumbai University. If the BSc course is a choice of 40% of students out of 100%. Then, the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) attracted 23% of the student interest, proving that engineering continues to hold significant appeal in Mumbai University courses too.

Q:   What is the BTech curriculum at Mumbai University?
A:

Mumbai University BE/BTech curriculum mixes foundational sciences and core engineering subjects specific to specializations. It focuses on the practical learning through application of the knowledge. All through the curriculum of BE/BTech students work on projects and get opportunities of internships. There are verious specilisations as per the interest of the students to choose from.

Q:   How many seats are provided for the BTech course at Mumbai University?
A:

University of Mumbai offers a massive number of seats across for BE/BTech. It overs 27,500 seats.  This figure is calculated considering all the affiliate colleges. Further, seats are distributed among the given specialisations within the BTech programme. 

Q:   Does Mumbai University offer LLM?
A:

Yes, Mumbai University offers LLM course at the Postgraduate - PG level. The University offers an LLM programme for a duration of 2 years. Admission to LLM is given on the entrance examination basis. Interested students can appear for the MU LLM CET Examination, which is an online examination conducted by the university. However, candidates are required to be eligible for the programme.

Eligibility Criteria: LL.B. degree of this University or a degree recognised as equivalent thereto.

Selection Criteria: MU LLM CET Exam, Interview. 

Moreover, courses like MBA, MCom, and others also received attention from the students in 9%, 6%, and 23%, respectively. The relatively lower preference for these programmes could be attributed to their postgraduate nature, making them less relevant for students right after Class 12.

The reason that most students choose BSc courses can be based on different parameters. Some of the parameters can be a variety of specialisations, a range of job prospects, Mumbai University placements, availability of BSc courses among university-affiliated colleges, affordable fee structure, etc.

There are more than 100 specialisations in the BSc course that candidates from the PCB and PCM streams can apply for, such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Botany, Zoology, and more. Moreover, some of the BSc specialisations can be pursued by candidates from any stream, such as Hotel Management, Design, Law, Languages, Mass Communication, Social Sciences, etc.

Ranges of Job Prospects

As mentioned, the course has several specialisations, which means that it has more career options too. Candidates can choose their jobs according to the BSc specialisation they have pursued. Therefore, many times students go with the BSc course.
