Today the minimum eligibility criteria is graduation (10+2+3). The duration of the course has also been extended, earlier it was 2 years, but now it is 4 years. Today the BEd degree has become a mandatory requirement for teaching at the secondary (classes 6 to 10) and higher secondary (10+2 or classes 11 and 12) levels in India. BEd is followed by MEd for those students who want to pursue higher education.

Nowadays students can either do distance or regular BEd, but the most important question is which one is better. To ease this situation for them, we have created this article on Distance BEd vs Regular BEd.

What is distance learning?

Before moving further into Distance BEd vs Regular BEd, it becomes imperative to understand what they are. Distance learning refers to remote studying which is completing a course or program without appearing in the college or institute in person. During distance courses, students don't have to appear for the classes, they can take the classes sitting in the comfort of their homes through laptops and smartphones. Many distance learning course providers don’t even provide online classes, they just provide the study materials and students have to read it on their own and appear for the exam as per the designated dates.

In distance learning, students are generally called 3 times during their whole course, first during the time of admission, second during the examination, and third during felicitation. Distance learning courses are often cost-effective as compared to regular courses and these courses are often opted for by students who are either in a full-time job or who can't afford the fees of regular courses or those who couldn't qualify for the entrance examination of their desired college but have to complete their higher education.

Picking between Distance BEd and Regular BEd really just depends what fits best for you. A Regular BEd course gives more classroom time, teachers around, and real practice in schools, so it’s good if you like learning face to face. But a Distance BEd is nice when you working or can’t go college every day, cause it lets you study from home and still get your degree. Both Distance BEd and Regular BEd are accepted by NCTE, so both help you become a teacher later. Some people like the routine of college, others want more free time to manage job or family. In the end, choose the one that feels right for your goals and helps you grow in teaching career.
