I leveraged my dentistry study to reach out to underprivileged, says Dr Sangeeta
I am a dental graduate and I have completed my Masters in Public Health (MPH) from PHFI Delhi - Indian Institute of Public Health. During my Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program, we had to study various branches of dentistry. One of them was Public Health Dentistry, where we learned about epidemiology, bio-statistics and dental health for the community as a whole. During the course, we used to organise various camps for the underprivileged. Having a love for organising events, along with a few friends, I often found myself volunteering and organising free dental camps. During the last few days of the course and especially in my internship days, my perspective changed towards public health. Being a dentist I noticed that the poor and underprivileged people have less or no idea of dental hygiene. This made me realise that there are a lot of health issues in the community which can be addressed with the proper preventive measures. This realisation shifted my view from dentistry to public health.
While searching online for a public health course, I came across the Masters in Public Health (MPH) program. Further, I started looking for good institutions in India that offer this course. After undertaking some online search and reviewing opinions from industry experts, I came to know about IIPH-Delhi. Thus, after completing my MPH from IIPH-Delhi, I can proudly say that I made no mistake by choosing this institute for my MPH. During the course, the institute provided us a chance of visiting communities, gave us the opportunity to participate in ‘SMART GRAM’ project under Pranav Mukherji Foundation where we had undertaken household surveys, facility assessment, transit walk, etc. Along with the study environment, excellent faculty and mentors are also a plus point of the institute.
Last but not the least, sharing classrooms with like-minded individuals from multi-disciplinary backgrounds enriched my mind with new possibilities. IIPH-Delhi makes the curriculum and a students’ life more fun by organising various social and cultural events on campus.
Today, I can proudly say that the knowledge, skills and the amazing experience I have gained during the two years at IIPH-Delhi is still helping me a lot to do good in my professional career.

There is no such gurantee of 100% placement, still placement ratio is pretty good there, about a minimum of 50% of the students got placement. Placements depend on the students, and a good salary package was offered to a fresher.
According to their database from 2015-2022 : Out of 170 scholars, 1
