Total government PG medical seats in India is around 34,000. According to data, Maharashtra has highest number of seats followed by Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. The data is based on details provided by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia in Parliament while replying to question regarding measures taken to strengthen the medical system.
There are approx. 3000 government PG medical seats in India. This data was shared by Manshuk Mandavia, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare. During a question series regarding UG & PG medical seats, Mandavia informed the Lok Sabha that there were 70,645 medical seats, including Private and Government medical colleges in India. The exact number of government seats is 33,416, including College and Physicians & Surgeons (CPS) and Diplomate of National Board (DNB) seats. Candidates appearing for NEET PG must be aware of the seat matrix. This will help to prioritise the college preference during the counselling process. According to state-wise data, Maharashtra has the highest number of PG government medical seats among the states. The total number of government PG medical seats in Maharashtra is 3,576. With 2,889 seats, Delhi ranks second number followed by Tamil Nadu (2,765) and Rajasthan (2,255).

Total Private & Government PG Medical Seats in India
The total number of PG medical seats including private and government is 70, 645 for academic year 2023-24. There has been an increase of 127 percent from 31, 185 before 2014 and 70,645 as of now, the Union Health Minister on February 7, 2024 informed the Lok Sabha. Providing a comparative data, the Minister said, PG seats was increased from 39583 in 2018-19 to 64059 in 2022-23. There will be a time limit of 42 minutes for each section. The candidates will be required to marks the answer to all the questions of one section and the next section will only appear after the time limit of one section gets over.
