Lovely Professional University (LPU) recently organised its high spirited annual cultural fest ‘Spectra-2019’, which witnessed an active participation of over 5000 students across various streams. Over 29 competitions were conducted in five areas — music, dance, literary, theatrics and fine arts.

The fest focused on spreading social awareness, including favouring skills development, entrepreneurship, nationality, cleanliness and against food wastage, corruption, terrorism, pollution, poverty and female foeticide. Active participation of students culled out true artist within them irrespective of whether they were engineers, managers, doctors, physiotherapists, bio-technologists, journalists, advocates, judges, fashion designers, architects, pharmacists studying at LPU.

Conveying national importance message, "Say No to Plastics," all participants also participated in two kilometers of procession on campus, ending in the University's Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium. Trophies and certificates were awarded to winning teams and individual students of various colleges.

LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal had invited all winning and participating students to sharpen their skills under the leadership of professional instructors at the university, at national and international level. Mittal described ‘Spectra’ as a fun, competitive party, and asked the students to get better informed and to develop their competitive spirit.

Each year in the first semester, LPU schedules 'Spectra' fest comprising various small events to recognise the talent, particularly of incoming new students. Winners here at the university and other promising students are further directed to compete on larger national-international platforms, including AIU Nationals, Youth Vibe, One India, One World and many more. Besides, performances by non-competitive students such as Nukkad Nataks (street plays), rock band performances, street dances and more were also chalked out to lead developing minds on human and social lines.

Competitions in the music category included classical voice, instrumental (percussion / non-percussion), folk group singing, Indian group singing, duet singing, and Western solo vocal. There were also contests for classical / semi-classical dance, folk dances, international group dance, western freestyle, theme choreography, western group dance and rap-star for dance.

Competitions for skit, beatboxing, histrionics, mimicry and mime were for theatrics.  For spot painting, clay modelling, cartooning, drawing, rangoli, poster making, collage making, single-colour painting, watercolour combination, charcoal portrait, greeting card making etc., fine art competitions were held. Literary competitions featured eloquence, quiz, creative writing, debate, declamation, reading news, and more.

School of Computer Science and Engineering lifted overall trophy of Spectra while the School of Business and School of Journalism and Film Production were declared first runner-up and second runner-up.
