Union HRD Minister visits LPU; inaugurates three events
Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal visited LPU - Lovely Professional University(LPU). He inaugurated university’s top three events in diverse fields. He also introduced students with a new policy of student’s grant and assured distribution of Rs 4.1 Crore to 295 meritorious students across the country as an academic and CSR initiative. Not just for academics but for co-curricular activities also, he raised the curtain for initiation of a ‘decade’ of annual ‘One World’ Festival at the university; and, in sports there was inauguration of All India Inter-University Aquatics Championship (Women) 2019-20 at Olympic Size, all weather swimming pool of university.
Addressing Study Grant award winner students as “selected diamonds” from across the country, at densely packed Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university, HRD Minister made all to pledge to utilise each and every moment of their life; accept challenges; reach far ahead of all; ignore trivial matters; never compromise with the circumstances; and, thus prove to be born to change the world. Quoting great leaders of the country including former president Abdul Kalam, prime ministers Lal Bahudar Shastri, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and present PM Narendra Modi; Pokhriyal invoked all to learn from great leaders’ lives and take India to the top in the world by adding regular glories to it.
HRD Minister talked about the country's new education policy and informed all that it is open to all for suggestions and more than two lakh suggestions have been received so far. He shared how a new India will certainly arise through a new type of work and research as a young India with young ideas. With positivism and good ideas for all progress, he wanted everyone to believe in themselves.
Appreciating the productive efforts undertaken at LPU in a variety of fields, in a very short span, HRD Minister urged LPU to adopt more of the nearby villages under the programme 'Unnant Vikas' and to implement governmental policies to improve the quality of life of common people there. He also commended LPU for connecting the meritorious class of students with their dream and mission and helping them achieve their goals. Talking about winning activities on the sports field at LPU, he awakened everyone to always be fit to see 'Fit India.' Mr. Minister applauded the LPU for upholding such a great culture of the country in order to make the whole world in a miniature form at LPU with "one family" attitude through the annual "one world" festival.
Prior to that, Lovely Group Chairman Mr. Ramesh Mittal, Vice President Mr. Naresh Mittal; LPU Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal and Pro Chancellor Mrs. Rashmi Mittal welcomed Mr. Minister at the campus. Also present were former Jalandhar Mayor Mr. Rakesh Rathore, senior civil and police officials, parents of the award-winning students. Chancellor Mittal thanked HRD Minister for saving his valuable time and letting everyone know about his impressive achievements in various fields including politics, literature, social causes, and organizational skills. He also told Mr. Minister that he would cooperate fully with him in the implementation of the country's new education policy. Mr Mittal also implored HRD Minister to involve LPU for organizing national events.
Illustrative, LPU launched Study Grant through its annual LPU NEST (National Entrance & Scholarship Test) to honor meritorious students working hard to obtain admissions to the country's top institutions including IIMs, IITs, NITs, NLUs, IHMs, NIFTs and more. The winning students appeared for the entrance test of LPU before making it to the top of the admission lists of various institutions throughout the world. The university's annual' one world ' festival is chalked out by over 4000 international students from more than 50 countries studying at the LPU; and campus sports events are organised under the aegis of the Indian Universities Association.
