In a conversation with Shiksha.com, V.Hamsadhwani Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology (PMIST), Thanjavur talks about the exciting field of Electrical Engineering that requires one to understand complex engineering designs of circuits and systems as well as build them from scratch.

V.Hamsadhwani is currently working as Associate Professor in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology (PMIST), Thanjavur, deemed to be University, India. She has more than 15 years of teaching and research. 

Q1. What are the three things that EEE Department is doing that will enable it to differentiate itself from the other departments?

Department of EEE offers

Q2. What are the top three initiatives undertaken by you that are helping your students become more industry ready?

• Students are allowed to involve in ongoing projects and to work in research labs in order to formulate their own products ideas, from the second year onwards.
• Students are encouraged to take their subject-oriented assignments based on scholarly articles that help them to connect the syllabus with trending futuristic research.
• Interested students are recommended to visit nearby companies to work on weekly holidays to earn and learn with real-time practical knowledge.

 We have the established and well equipped labs for Electrical Machines Lab (AC and DC machines), Power Electronics Lab, Control and Instrumentation lab, Measurement and Instrumentation lab, Power system simulation lab and Basic Electrical Engineering lab, where students are allowed to carry out practical and research projects under the guidance of our faculty.

• To improve/drive better campus placements for our current students and alumni are undergoing focused training in Communications Skills and Development, Fundamentals of C / C++, Electrical - Auto CADD, IoT / Aurdino,  Advanced Placements Skills and Training and Energy Auditing and Management.
