JEE Advanced 2017 Topper Interview: Rachit Bansal AIR 9
A student of Bhupindra International Public School, Patiala, Rachit Bansal cracked JEE Advanced 2017 by securing an All India Rank 9 in the exam. JEE Advanced 2017 results were declared on June 11.
For Rachit, getting into IIT Bombay to pursue CSE(Computer Science Engineering) had always been a dream. And it was this dream that inspired him to pursue engineering. Coming from a family of engineers, Rachit plans to pursue Physics in the future. This topper dedicates his success to his teachers, family members including father and brother, who are both engineers.
In an interview with Shiksha, Rachit Bansal, JEE Advanced 2017 Topper AIR 9 talks about success mantras and preparation strategies. Read the full interview below.
Q. Congrats on your achievement. So, how do you feel being the Toppers of JEE Advanced 2017? Did you expect it?
I am extremely happy and my parents too are elated. I wasn’t expecting this to happen before I appeared for the exam. However, once I took the exam, I somewhere knew that I would be in Top 10.
Q. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in and what was XII board marks?
I am a CBSE Board student and have completed studies from Bhupindra International Public School(BIPS), Patiala. I secured 95.2% in CBSE Class XII board exams.
Q. What is your subject wise and overall score?
My JEE Advanced 2017 overall score is: Maths - 119; Physics - 105; Chemistry – 103. My overall score in the exam is 327.
Q. How long have you been preparing? And what was your study plan like for JEE Advanced 2017? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for JEE?
I have been preparing for the exam from Class 11th. I enrolled myself in a coaching institute. Besides that, I used to self-study for around 6 to 7 hours a day.
According to me, two years are enough to crack the exam and secure a good rank.
Q. What is the difference between the preparation strategies of JEE Advanced and JEE Main?
The main difference between both the exams are the difficulty level of questions. JEE Advanced needs more practice of difficult questions.
Q. Did you take JEE Main 2017 examination in online or offline mode? What was your rank and score?
I appeared for the JEE Main 2017 offline exam. My overall score in the exam was 320/360. My All India Rank in the exam was 95.
Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?
I was not good at Chemistry and sometime got irritated too. I used to refer to various books for that and my coaching institute helped me a lot through it.
Q. Did you take coaching? Do you think coaching is required to crack JEE?
Yes, I did take up coaching classes from Allen Career Institute, Kota. Yes, I think coaching is helpful as it provides students with the required tests and concise information needed to crack the exam.
Q. Did you take up mock tests and sample papers? Do you think to practicing from previous year question papers help and how?
Yes. Allen offered us mock tests and sample papers. Yes, I did solve and practice from previous years question papers. They are very helpful.
Q. Any important books you would like to suggest for future aspirants?
All NCERT books are very important. Besides that, for practicing questions, students should refer to Irodov for Physics and Soloman’s for Chemistry. For mathematics, whichever book you refer, you would need a lot of practice.
Q. Which IIT are you aiming at and which stream do you wish to pursue?
I am aiming for IIT Bombay for Computer Science Engineering.
Q. Any tips for aspirants who would be taking the exam next year?
Study the notes that teachers provide. Those are very helpful. Also, one should have a clear understanding of concepts. It’s very important.
Q. Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering?
I wanted to get the feel of IIT Bombay CSE and thus wanted to study engineering.
Q. Tell us about your family background?
My father is a Chief engineer and my mother is a housewife. I have an elder brother too who just passed out from BITS Pilani. He too studied CSE.
Q. What are your future plans?
I want to pursue research in Physics.
Q. Tell us about yourself and your hobbies.
I love hanging out with my friends and spending time them.
