The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, or CISCE, decides the ICSE 10th Marking Scheme every year. Every subject carries 100 marks in total. But not all these marks come from the exam hall. Part of the marks come from the school generally based on class work and projects. This is called internal assessment. For most subjects, like English, Mathematics, and Science, the written paper carries 80 marks and the school gives 20 marks. But for skill-based subjects, like Computer Applications or Art, the split is equal 50 marks from the written paper and 50 marks from school work. Along with this, every student must score at least 33% marks in a subject to pass it. According to ICSE 10th Syllabus 2027, Group I subjects are compulsory. Every student takes English, a Second Language, and History Civics & Geography. Group II gives a choice of two or three subjects, like Mathematics, Science, or Commercial Studies. These follow the same 80:20 pattern as Group I. Pass Criteria and Grading System

Passing the ICSE 10th exam depends on the marks scored in each subject and overall. Here are the main rules:

● A student needs at least 33% marks in a subject to pass it.

● To get the Pass Certificate, a student must pass in at least five subjects. English must be one of them.

● A pass grade in SUPW (school work) is also needed.

● Written papers get a grade from 1 to 9. Grades 1-2 mean Very Good, 3-5 mean Pass with Credit, 6-7 mean Pass, and 8-9 mean Fail.

● School-marked work, like SUPW, gets a grade from A to E instead of numbers.

● If a student does not pass a subject, they can attempt the ICSE Improvement Examination for up to two subjects, in the same year.

● A student must take at least six subjects, across Group I, II, and III, to appear for the ICSE Class X exam.

The ICSE 10th Marking Scheme splits marks fairly between the written paper and school work. Group III subjects give extra credit for practical skills.
