IIT Gandhinagar Ph.D. Courses & Fees

IIT Gandhinagar offers a Ph.D. course to students at the doctoral level in 13 specialisations. Apart from regular Ph.D. courses, the institute also provides Start Early Ph.D. courses to students. Offered in regular and continuing doctoral programmes (CDP) mode, admission to Ph.D. and Start Early Ph.D. courses is based on an interview round which is followed by a written test, if necessary. The seats are limited so the students must apply early.

Admissions to PhD at IIT Gandhinagar generally opens up toward the beginning and end of each academic year. In addition to the announced admission cycles with a prescribed deadline of application, the institute also considers applications for any time of the year for exceptional candidates. Based on the qualifications of the candidates and the need of the specialisation, applications received are processed via duly constituted selection committees at regular intervals. As per the information available on the official website of JoSAA 2025, the semester-wise IIT Gadhinagar hostel fee is INR 17,250 (this includes hostel seat rent, utilities, etc.). A mess and laundry advance fee of INR 21,000 is also required to be paid by the students admitting to a four-year full-time BTech course at IIT-G.

In addition, to be eligible for the BTech programme, candidates must have passed their Class 12 with 75% aggregate. Hence, while JEE Main is the most important starting point to get into IIT Gandhinagar for the flagship course, it is not the only criteria for it.

Based on the Round 1 seat allotment, the BTech cutoff scores ranged between 1576 and, 10165 for the General AII India category students. Among all the BTech specialisations, BTech in CSE is the most competitive specialisation. So, considering the round 1 cutoff, candidates seeking admission to Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar must secure a maximum rank upto 10165.

The application process for all the courses offered by IIT Gandhinagar is completely online. Candidates seeking admission must apply via the following websites:

• BTech students must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) via the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 625 and INR 325 for girls.
• MTech students are required to register for GATE through the official website of GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,500 and INR 750 for girls.
• For MSc, candidates need to register for IIT JAM through the official website (iitr.ac.in). The application charges for others is INR 1,800 for other and INR 900 for female (all categories)/ SC/ ST/ PwD for one test paper.
• For MA and PhD, students are required to apply via the official website of IIT Gandhinagar. 

The modes of IIT Gandhinagar admissions are online and offline. Admission to various postgraduate and undergraduate courses is based on merit and entrance exam scores. Accepted entrance exams are GATE, JEE Main, and JEE Advanced. Candidates must study GATE exam pattern, keep an eye on GATE exam date and GATE result. At the undergraduate level, the college offers four-year BTech courses to students in seven specialisations. At the postgraduate level, the college offers two-year MSc, MTech, M.A. And various other courses to students.
