Yes, IIT Patna provides good placements in BTech course. At the end of phase 1 placement 2025-26, BTech highest and average package was INR 117 LPA and 25.82 LPA. Overall 90 companies visited the campus and more than 390 offers were made during the placement drive 2026.

The cutoff trend for BTech at IIT Patna has been increasing in the recent years. In 2021, the closing rank for B.Tech. under general category for all India quota was 14216. In 2022, it increased to 14895. Likewise, the cut off ranks have changed from 5243 to 5285 for OBC, 2861 to 2793 for SC, 2861 to 1336 for ST, 2046 to 2226 for EWS. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, as the demand for engineering education in India continues to grow. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.

Candidates are offered admission in IIT Patna's flagship BTech, BTech Dual degree courses based on JEE Advanced rank. The seats are allotted via JoSAA Counselling. The seats in MTech and MSc programmes is allotted via COAP and IIT JAM Counselling. For admission in PhD, aspirants have to appear for written test conducted by IIT Patna or provide scores in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET followed by PI round.

IIT Patna conducts written test for admission in M.Tech under sponsored and self-financed category. It also conducts a written test for PhD programme. Aspirants can also get admission in PhD via scores in UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, etc. Selected candidates also need to pass a PI round conducted by the institute.

Candidates need to apply online for JEE Main for BTech admission at IIT Patna. Students need to fill out the form for JEE (Main) through the website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,000 and INR 800 for girls.

With maximum competition with respect to the cutoff trends observed in the past three years, CSE can be considered one of the best BTech branches at IIT Patna. Followed by this, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science and Electrical and Electronics Engineering seems to be the most competitive branches at IIT Patna. However, students must select a branch depending on their interest.

IIT Patna offers BTech, MTech, MSc, and PhD programmes through its 10 departments. IIT Patna offers four-year BTech programmes at the undergraduate level in 11 specialisations. A two-year MTech programme in 17 specialisations and two-year MSc programmes in three specialisations at the postgraduate level. All 10 departments of IIT Patna also offer a three-year PhD programme. The mode of IIT Patna admission is online. Admission to BTech is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores, followed by JoSSA counseling.
