NIST allows direct admission to the third semester of its BTech programme in all specialisations. The admission criteria for lateral entry is as per the JEE norms for lateral entry. Candidates willing to take lateral entry admission to NIST BTech programme must be eligible as per the following eligibility criteria:

• A Diploma of a minimum of three years, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category)

or

• A BSc degree from a UGC-recognised university, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and a pass in Class 12 with Mathematics as a subject

At the time of admission to the BTech programme of NIST Berhampur, selected candidates have to pay an admission seat confirmation fee and a refundable caution deposit. The admission seat confirmation fee at NIST is INR 15,000. The fee amount is later adjusted toward the first instalment of the total BTech fee, which ranges between INR 4.28 lakh and INR 6.48 lakh for four years. Additionally, students must submit a caution deposit of INR 5,000 which will be refunded to them after the completion of the programme. The admission to BTech at NIST is based on the applicant's performance in JEE (Main), followed by the JEE counselling of their state. 70% of the seats are filled through OJEE counselling.
