What is TIFR GS?

TIFR GS is a nationwide entrance exam conducted by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in order to provide admission to candidates in postgraduate Science courses offered by it. Through TIFR GS, candidates are offered admission in five-year integrated MSc courses and PhD programmes which are offered at the institute. The TIFR GS is conducted in offline mode and the exam duration is of 3 hours. Candidates who clear the national level entrance exam will be called for an interview at the institute. The TIFR GS admit card 2021 has been released online. The national level entrance exam will be conducted on March 7, 2021. 

TIFR GS 2021 Eligibility Criteria

TIFR GS 2021 Admission Process

Candidates need to complete the below-mentioned steps in order to take part in TIFR admission process successfully.

Step 1: Fill TIFR GS Application Form

Candidates can fill TIFR GS 2021 application form in online mode. After filling the form, candidates also need to pay TIFR GS 2021 application fee in online (credit/ debit card) or offline (DD) mode.

Step 2: Download TIFR GS Admit Card

Candidates can download their TIFR GS 2021 admit card/ hall ticket from the official website of the institute. It may be noted that TIFR GS admit card is a mandatory document to be carried to the exam centre.

Step 3: Appear for TIFR GS Exam

Next, candidates need to appear for TIFR GS 2021 exam at the allotted exam centre. The nationwide Science entrance exam is scheduled to be conducted in March, 2021, due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. .

Step 4: Check TIFR GS Result

Once the written is conducted, candidates can check their TIFR GS 2021 result on the official website of the institute. The result would contain details such as a candidate’s qualifying status, marks scored, etc.

Step 5: Appear for TIFR GS Interview Round

Candidates clearing the written test will then be called for the final round – interview. Candidates clearing this round will then be eligible to secure admission in their respective courses on the basis of merit.

Additional mode of admissions (Beyond GS)

For Systems Science: All Engineering students who have performed exceptionally well in GATE exam of 2018-20 in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering, and Mathematics can apply for the PhD course without giving TIFR GS exam.

For Biology: All students who have performed exceptionally well in GATE exam of 2018-20 in Ecology and Evolution can apply for the PhD programme in Biology at the National Centre for Biological Sciences without giving TIFR GS exam.

For Physics: Candidates applying for Physics courses can also secure admission based on GATE/ NET/ JEST scores.
