National Institute of Technology Goa admission process includes application process, selection round, cutoff, merit list, and counselling. Aspirants have to apply for the accepted entrance exam for admission. Check below the steps to get a seat in the institute:
1- NIT Goa Application Process 2026
Candidates seeking admission at NIT Goa are required to complete the application form for the course-specific entrance exam. After appearing for the respective entrance exams, candidates have to apply for the counselling process for the final seat allotment. However, candidates seeking admission to PhD courses can visit the official website of NIT Goa and apply for the programme directly. Candidates without GATE scores need to fill out the institute form for MTech.
2- Selection Rounds
NIT Goa shortlists candidates based on valid scores obtained by them in the relevant entrance exams. For its flagship BTech course, NIT Goa admits students with a valid JEE Main score. Admission to MTech is through GATE, followed by CCMT Counselling. Aspirants without GATE scores have to appear for written test conducted by the institute for admission. Candidates have to appear for a written test followed by PI for admission to PhD courses. The institute releases the result of written test online.
3- Release of Cutoff list, Counselling & Admission Confirmation
The respective counselling bodies release the cutoff for BTech and MTech courses. Aspirants with scores equal or above NIT Goa cutoff are allotted seat. In case MTech seats remain vacant after CCMT Counselling, aspirants have to fill out the form for Spot Admission. Aspirants who are allotted seat have to report at the campus for document verification and fee payment.

NIT Goa offers a four-year full-time BTech course at the undergraduate level. NIT Goa BTech admission is completely entrance-based and depends on candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam, followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling. Yes, candidates can change their BTech branch at NIT Goa after the first year. A student admitted to a particular branch of the undergraduate programme will continue studying in that branch till completion. However, the Institute may permit a student admitted through JEE (Main)/DASA quota, to change from one branch of studies to another after the first two semesters.
To change the BTech branch at NIT Goa, candidates are required to complete the eligibility criteria laid down:
- Candidates must have completed all the credits required in the first two semesters of their studies in their first attempt.
- Branch changes are usually based on candidates' CGPA, which will be calculated based on candidates' scores of the beginning two semesters. Students need a high CGPA (often above 8.5 or 9.0) to be eligible and get a seat in another branch. Sometimes the seat also plays a major role in switching the BTech branch.
NIT Goa cutoff 2025 has been released for the round 1. The cutoff has been released for admission to BTech and BArch courses, on the basis of JEE Main scores. The cutoff was released for different categories belonging to the All India and Home State quotas. Among the General AI category candidates, the cutoff ranks varied between 839 and 47246. The most desired course among the General AI category candidates was BArch. In the BTech specialisations, the most desirable specialisation turned out to be CSE.
Last year, CRL cutoff for general male students was 12k. Candidate must have passed class 12th or equivalent with minimum of 75 percent marks by the AIU or Intermediate or 2-year Pre-University exam conducted by a recognized Board/ University with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject. Candidate who have passed the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2021, 2022, or those who are appearing in Class 12/equivalent examination in 2023, are also eligible to appear. There is no age limit for the candidates.
Last year, CRL cut off for general male students was 45k. Also, Candidate must have passed class 12th or equivalent with minimum of 75 percent marks by the AIU or Intermediate or 2-year Pre-University exam conducted by a recognized Board/ University with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject. Candidate who have passed the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2021, 2022, or those who are appearing in Class 12/equivalent examination in 2023, are also eligible to appear. There is no age limit for the candidates.
Nothing happens, if you have some medical reasons then you can submit the Medical report. But then you have to score well in the semester examination so that you will get good marks and won't fail. If someone fails in end semester exams then they will have to reappear, next year. So try to give internal exams, and do not miss them as it helps to score and have a good aggregate of marks which will ultimately increase your CGPA. These internal exams, therefore, play an important role in securing admission.

NIT Goa offers 100% tuition fee waiver to M.Tech aspirants from ST/ SC/ PH categories. These candidates may have to submit relevant documents to avail this benefit.
