NIT Sikkim offers BTech programmes with a duration for four years. BTech programme at NIT Sikkim is offered in  specialisations namely Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering & Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The eligibility criteria for the BTech specialisations includes twelve years of shcool education with 75% aggregate. National entrance exams is the source of admission for the BTech programme.

The total fee for the BTech programme at NIT Sikkim is INR 5 lakh, Total fee is calculated based on annual/ semester fee available for the academic year, hence is indicative. ST/SC & PH students are fully exempted from paying tuition fees, while the most economically backward students (whose family income is less than Rs.1.00 Lacs per annum) are granted full remission of the tuition fee. Other economically backward students, whose family income falls between Rs.1.00 to 5.00 Lacs per annum, are granted a remission of 2/3rd of the tuition fee. 

For 2023, cut off was 34083 for General category candidates in All India quota for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering in NIT Sikkim. The cutoff for 2023 is higher compare to the previous two years. in 2021 it was 30095 and in 2022 it was 25908.

The opening and closing ranks for NIT Sikkim BTech 2025 vary according to categories, rounds, gender and specialisations. For the SC AI category BTech CSE 2025 opening rank was 3898, and the closing rank was 4088,  according to JoSSA counselling 6th round.  According to JoSSA last round for the All India category, the closing and opening ranks for this course were 5728 for female SC candidates. B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering is the most sought-after course specialisation among candidates, admission for which is based on the JEE Main 2025 ranks, followed by the JoSSA counselling process and, if required by the CSAB counselling process for allocation of any vacant seats after JoSSA is over.

• Candidates seeking admission at NIT Sikkim are required to complete the application form for the course-specific entrance exam. After appearing for the respective entrance exams, candidates have to apply for the counselling process for the final seat allotment.
• For its flagship BTech course, NIT Sikkim admits students with a valid JEE Main score and are allotted seats through JoSAA Counselling. Admission to M.Tech is done through GATE, followed by CCMT Counselling. Similarly for MSc admission, IIT JAM and CCMN Counselling are required. However, PhD admission requires to appear in the Institution entrance exam and PI. Additionally, NIT Sikkim conducts IAT (Institute Admission Test),  for admission to the left-over seats from the CCMN and CCMNT counselling for MSc/MTech.
• The cutoff for BTech, MTech, and MSc courses is released by the respective counselling bodies.The shortlisted candidates are then required to pay the admission fee to confirm their seats.

Yes, NIT Sikkim be considered a good college for engineering. The institute is an autonomous institute recognised by the UGC and approved by the AICTE. While its recent NIRF 2024 ranking places it in the 151-200 band for engineering, and its median placement packages are modest at around INR 8.50 LPA for B.Tech.  NIT Sikkim course admissions are entrance-based. For admission to its BTech programme, NIT Sikkim accepts the JEE Main scores, followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling.
