VLSI design tools are software applications that are used to design, verify, and fabricate integrated circuits (ICs). These tools are essential for VLSI designers, as they allow them to create complex ICs with millions or even billions of transistors. Some of the most popular VLSI design tools are:

• Cadence Design Systems (CDS)- CDS is a suite of VLSI design tools that covers the entire IC design flow, from RTL design to physical design.
• Synopsys: Synopsys offers a wide range of VLSI design tools,  includingRTL synthesis,  physical design,  and verification tools.
• Zuken: Zuken offers a variety of VLSI design tools,  including PCB design,  schematic capture,  and physical design tools.

VLSI design tools are constantly evolving, and new tools are being developed all the time. As the complexity of ICs continues to increase, VLSI design tools will become even more essential for VLSI designers.

VLSI design is important as it allows us to create complex electronic devices that are small, powerful, and affordable. Without VLSI design, many of the electronic devices that we rely on today would not have been possible. 

We have mentioned some related examples of why VLSI design is important:

• Smartphones: Smartphones are some of the most varsatile electronic devices ever created. They contain millions of transistors and are packed with features such as high-resolution displays, powerful cameras, and fast processors. VLSI design is essential for creating smartphones that are small, lightweight, and affordable.
• Computers: Computer is one of the most typical examples of the complex electronic devices that rely on the use of VLSI design. Every new computer model is built with billions of transistors, with some of the new models being able to do trillions of calculations in a second. Through VLSI design techniques it becomes possible to build computers that are highly capable and at the same time cheap also.
• Automotive electronics: VLSI design is also applied for designing electronics in the automobiles like anti lock braking systems, air bags and navigation systems. These systems are being used for safety and convenience where VLSI circuits play a significant role in the operations of these systems.
• Medical devices: It is also applied in medical appliances like pacemakers, MRI machines, etc., and cochlear implants. These devices tend to be rather sophisticated and frequently entail the use of application-specific VLSI circuits.
