What is B.Arch?
B.Arch stands for Bachelor of Architecture. It aims at designing buildings, bridges, skyscrapers, etc. Candidates study architectural design, construction and materials, urban planning, environmental studies, etc. The career options here are Architect, Urban planner and Interior consultant.

NID DAT Entrance Exam 2026 Prelims exam was conducted offline in pen and paper mode. It was conducted at the NID test centres.
NID DAT Mains exam: Studio Test and Interview, will be conducted offline at the test centres in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar.
The final results of NID DAT is prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.
In case of the B.Des program, the DAT Prelims carries 40% weightage, while DAT Mains carries 60% weightage.
Meanwhile for the M.Des programme, DAT Prelims carries 30% weightage, while DAT Mains carries 70% weightage. Note that DAT Mains for M.Des contains to sub-components - Studio Test and Interview.
Candidates who qualify DAT Prelims has to mandatorily appear in the DAT Mains. Or else, the candidate is not considered for admission.
The NID DAT translates to the National Institute of Design - Design Aptitude Test. The Design Aptitude Test has two parts - DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The candidate has to first appear in DAT Prelims. If shortlisted, the candidate has to appear in DAT Mains.
Note that NID DAT scores are accepted for admission to the B.Des and M.Des programs offered by participating colleges. This means, the NIDs will not accept scores of no other entrance exams for admission purposes.
The DAT Prelims exam is typically conducted in January.
NID DAT Prelims is the 1st step of the two-step NID admissions process. DAT Prelims comprises a written exam that candidates need to clear in order to be eligible for DAT Mains.

What is B.Des?
B.Des stands for Bachelor of Design. It aims at designing products, visuals, apparel, jewellery, etc. It has many specialisations like Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Animation, etc. The career options after pursuing B.Des are Fashion Designer, Fashion Stylist, Design Consultant, Jewellery Designer, etc.

NID DAT 2026 (Prelims) exam will be conducted as a paper-and-pencil/pen test. The question paper will be set in English only.
Also, the duration for DAT Prelims will be notified in the NID DAT 2026 admit card.
Note that in the previous edition, the DAT Prelims test duration for the B.Des program was 3 hours, while the M.Des exam was 2 hours 30 minutes long.
The question paper for the B. Des will include both textual and visual questions. Meanwhile, DAT Mains for the M.Des program will include objective and subjective-based questions. Questions will be asked from two sections - 1) Common Design Aptitude Test, and 2) Discipline Specific Test.
Candidates who qualify DAT Prelims has to next appear in DAT Mains. DAT Mains for B. Des program includes a Studio Test, while DAT Mains for the M.Des programme, in addition, will include an interview. DAT Mains will be held in offline mode.
The NID DAT 2026 Mains exam for B. Des comprises a Studio Test. The Studio Test is conducted in offline mode. Meanwhile, DAT Mains for the M.Des programme comprise a Studio Test and an Online Interview. The Studio Test and Interview were conducted in offline mode.
NID Studio Test for M.Des carries 40% of wieghtage and Interview carries 60% wieghtage. More emphasis is given on the interview by NID.
The allotment of seats will be based on:
- Choice opted at the time of counseling registration (academic programs + campuses)
- The category of the candidate
- Seat intake in the college opted for admission
- NIFT 2026 merit rank of the candidate.
NIFT 2026 seat allotment process will be conducted in four regular and one spot rounds.
The 1st round of seat allotment will be declared around the 3rd week of June 2026. .
The counseling registration will be conducted in May 2026.
