The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are autonomous institutions offering technical education focused on Information Technology and Communication Studies. There are a total of 26 IIITs in India, five of which are listed as the Institutes of National Importance while the remaining 21 IIITs are set up on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In the NIRF ranking 2025 for engineering released for engineering colleges in India, IIIT Hyderabad has debuted and also is ranked first among all the IIITs. IIITDM Jabalpur jumped to 80th rank from its previous 81st rank in 2024, while IIIT Allahabad moved to 87th rank. Entrance Exams for Admissions at IIITs

All the IIITs, although autonomous, are linked to each other through a common admission process. Admission to UG engineering programmes offered at IIITs is done through JEE Mains exam. After NTA (National Testing Agency) coming into authority from 2018, the exam is held twice a year in January and April for admission to various IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.

IIIT Cutoffs for BTech

After appearing for JEE Main, the next step for candidates seeking admission to IIITs is to appear for Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) or Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) counselling. The authority jointly manages and regulates the seat allocation to candidates for admission to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, 28 government-funded technical institutes (GFTIs), conducted by JoSAA, and 23 centrally-funded technical institutes (CFTIs), conducted by CSAB.
