I have become more responsible and have now learnt how to manage time: Aanchal Jain
Career is an important aspect of any person’s life and I was aware of this being reflected from the decision of my +2 education. I have been inquisitive about sciences and its advances related to space, technology and its engineering. My parents believed I had that potential in me to handle the challenges the field had to offer and encouraged me to pursue the subject.
I chose University of Engineering and Management, Kolkata because of its excellent achievements. UEM Kolkata has won “AAA” category, first 10 institutes of India including all IITs and NITs, in NPTEL program. IEM-UEM group got appreciation from the Optical Society of India for Optronix 2015. UEM Kolkata students’ performances in NPTEL examinations in September-October cycle have been ranked number 1 all over India. It has provided a stage for foreign internship. The educational group has one of the strongest placement cells in the country. Right from its inception, both IEM and UEM have provided for 1 to 2 jobs on an average for all its students.
UEM gives a lot of importance to technical fests, different technical events and workshops. It often organizes guest lectures also. It is very strong in terms of academics. Labs are well decorated. One of the computer labs has 1000 computers. All classrooms are smart classes. It has a well-equipped sports complex and a good library. The faculty is well-educated. They are inclined to help the students and are highly qualified. They also help students to do advanced studies and make learning more perceptible with leaching tools.
I cracked admission in this college by giving WEBJEE and JEE Mains exams. I took coaching classes in XI and XII. I gave VIT, MIT, SRM and KIIT entrances along with JEE mains and WEBJEE. I got selected for two of them but my plan was to study in Kolkata. So I decided to try for IEM-UEM group as its name is found under best colleges in INDIA and have heard the same about from people around me. I took Maths, Physics, and Chemistry coaching classes. I always worked hard, studied well, prepared myself for the engineering world.
When my board exams were over, my next focus was on these entrance exams. I remember everybody talking about just colleges and admissions and I had no idea where I am going to stand in the next few months. But I believed in myself because my parents believed in me.
I gave all those engineering exams so that I could assess my potential. Even if I was selected I could not go. But there are no regrets because I found UEM. Due to my board results, I got a scholarship as well for my 1st semester.
My first day at college was the beginning of my dream. I had so many emotions running through me. New place, new environment, new teachers and a completely different set of students. As time passed by, I made some good friends. We attend classes together, talk about lectures, compare notes. I spend my time in college usually attending classes or outside with my friends. I try to attend all my classes.
I was in the Marchpast team during sports day. I took part in seminars conducted in college. In those seminars, various speakers from different fields came to our college. I am always active during various workshops being held in college from time to time. Those workshops included Android App Development workshop, Arduino workshop, IoT workshop and many more. I am a part of UPSE classes held in our college.
I would like to be more active in college now. I am taking part in every competition held. I have taken web development training and am right now focusing on IoT and Machine Learning. I am interested in 3D printing and ethical hacking.
The college experience has changed me as a person. I have become more responsible and have now learnt how to manage time. Time management is essential because you can be lazy and not take time to do work or you could take every moment to accomplish things you need to do throughout the day. It solely depends on the person how to handle things. But college lets a student grow. I believe I have grown up more in the last year than I ever imagined. I have started taking work seriously. I invest my time in things that interest me. I do not procrastinate.
I have a great set of people surrounding me who always come in handy when required and I look forward to any kind of opportunity I get in my way.
