My Journey from a village to Jabalpur Engineering College: Shabana Bee
I studied till class 8th in a local private school in my village and after completing that I decided to go to the best school of my district. I took admission in Government Aadarsh Multipurpose Higher Secondary Excellence School, Damoh (MP). But soon, I realized that I was not good as all that I had learnt in my primary school was mugging up chapters. Then I started working hard on my studies, and since, my school was Hindi medium so things were not very difficult to me but things were new. I however managed to cope up with the new environment. And finally I improves. When I was in class 12th I worked really hard so that I could get admission in a good college. I also had to top in my school otherwise my family would not allow me to go out of the village for higher studies. When class 12 results were declared I happy beyond limit as I had secured 9th rank state-wise. I got 95.4% was among the top 10 students of MP so, I got 75,000 scholarship, too. And my JEE rank was 48000 so, I got admission to MP’s number 1 Government Engineering College, i e Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC).
Suggestions for JEE aspirants
Because, I have struggled in my school life so I want to give some suggestions to all the students:
- You can prepare for JEE along with your class 12 studies and get a good rank, all you need to do is have clarity of the concepts. Read NCERT books to develop your concepts because it is the basic building block of concepts.
- If you do not get good rank or could not get a good college, you can take a drop year but do not compromise on college.
- There is no need to go Kota or any another city for JEE Main coaching. You can prepare well in a good coaching class of your city.
- You also can prepare by self-study. You just need to focus on your goal and if you get stuck on a topic or concept, the YouTube and Google are there to clear your doubts.
- Most importantly, choose a course according to your interest.
Selection of College
Since, my parents did not allow me to go out of MP for higher studies, I applied to my state’s number 1 college. I had no idea about the branch so I opted for Electronics Engineering. In first round of counselling I got JEC. Then according to my rank I also got JEC’s girls hostel in which I am living right now. I learnt so many things from my hostel and college life. I see so many difference in me, in the journey from my village to JEC, in terms of self-confidence, awareness and many more things.
Suggestion
- It is not compulsory to get a Government college, NIT or IIT at one attempt. So, if you do not get your dream college you can give a second chance to yourself
- First know your interest, then choose your branch according to your interest. Do not take a branch in which you do not enjoy doing new things.
- Every branch has scope but getting a good job or having a successful career totally depends on your knowledge
College Experience
My college experience has been good. I am in my sixth semester and still learning a lot of things. In the beginning, I did not take part in extra-curricular activities as I wanted to focus on my studies as I shifting from Hindi Medium to English Medium was a bit difficult for me. But in my third semester, I took part in my college festival as the organising member and the experience was awesome. From then onwards, I started taking part in college fests. Currently I am in my fourth year and preparing for campus placement.
Observations
- Focus on what you want, what your goal is
- Focus on study as well as enjoy your college life as it is the best part of student life and most important too
- Always try to participate in college festivals as you will learn so many things from it
- Always focus on what you are learning not as exam point of view but to remember life time
- Finally, focus on your goal.
