IIM Kozhikode includes digital economy and data analysis in PGP syllabus

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode will now offer courses in upcoming and contemporary fields like digital economy and data analysis

IIM Kozhikode has included upcoming and contemporary fields like digital economy and data analysis in its PGP course. Check the new PGP syllabus.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode will now offer courses in upcoming and contemporary fields like digital economy and data analysis and domains like sustainability in business and design thinking, under its flagship PGP programme.

While these courses will be introduced in the first year of PGP programme, in the second year research on the same will be mandatory. Some structural changes have been introduced in the PGP curriculum, as well. The quantitative analysis paper now also has a component of analytics. Also, some of the elective courses have been introduced in the second year as core subjects.

“Some of these courses were earlier available in the form of electives, but we have realised that all students need to be exposed to these. The curriculum has been broadened to be introduced in the second year of the PGP programme,” said Keyoor Purani, associate professor at IIM Kozhikode.

“Traditionally, while classes may not prepare students to apply their learning to real life, a newly introduced ‘immersive leadership track’ approach will challenge students to solve projects using their conceptual knowledge, he said confirming that these projects will be introduced in the second year of PGP programme.

“For all five terms of the course, students are given problems and asked to find solutions. In this immersive programme, students have to research and find how they can impact an ongoing business. This is similar to PhD level research where students have to think ahead. This can result in anything from a book to a start-up idea to a video blog,” Purani added.
