Opting for MBA after BPharma was challenging: Mansi Pahuja

Kurukshetra University

Right from childhood, I had a great desire to treat ill people, and bring a smile on their faces. To be able to fulfill my desire, I chose Medical stream in my class XI. My family was against it, but I knew what I was doing was right for me. I was an average student in class XI and XII, and I believed that more than getting good marks, it was important to gain knowledge.

After my class XII, I opted to be a Paramedical student and studied Pharmacy. Once my Pharmacy was done, my aim was to cure people not with allopathic but with Ayurveda, herbs and correct diet.

I chose to do MBA after my Pharmacy was complete. I didn’t try for many B-Schools – just gave the entrance exam of Kurukshetra University, and got selected in it.

How I cracked college admission

Neither did I appear for any Management entrance tests, nor did I apply to any other college apart from Kurukshetra University. I filled the application form of the University, and appeared for the University’s entrance test. The paper consisted of four sections: General Awareness, English, Maths and Reasoning. Once the entrance test was over, I had to appear for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview. I had cleared all the three rounds, and my name was displayed in the list of selected students.

Initially, my focus was on Pharma exams, and was trying for National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, but then suddenly my focus shifted from Pharma MBA to General MBA.

I knew shifting to Commerce after years of studying Medical was challenging, but I thought of giving it a try.

What I gained from my college experience

I enjoy Marketing and HR classes but hate attending Finance class. I spend my time in classes as well as in canteen. Apart from attending classes, I have a keen interest in participating in extra-curricular activities like event management.

The only thing that I would like change about the teaching methodology would be to move away from the traditional theoretical knowledge, and introduce more of practical lessons. I love the way my Marketing teacher teaches us. He discusses various real life incidents, which are relatable, and makes understanding simple. Extra-curricular activities like group discussions on current topics should be held from time to time – this will help students in improving their communication skills, and at the same time will help increase knowledge on various topics.
