Commonly asked questions
Q:   What's the difference between KMAT and CMAT?
A:
The KMAT is a state-level MBA entrance test for the state of Karnataka, whereas the CMAT is a national MBA entrance exam. The differences between KMAT and CMAT are as follows: 1. Syllabus: There are five sections in the CMAT syllabus: quantitative techniques and data interpretation; comprehension; logical reasoning; general knowledge; and innovation and entrepreneurship. On the other hand, KMAT has only three sections, which are comprehension, reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. 2. Pattern: The duration to attempt 100 questions in CMAT is 3 hours, whereas it is 2 hours for 120 questions in KMAT. There are five options for each question in the CMAT unlike the four in the KMAT. 3. Negative Marking: The CMAT has negative marking of minus one mark for every wrong answer and four marks for each correct answer. There is no negative marking in the KMAT exam, and you get one mark for each correct answer. 4. Difficulty: Due to negative marking and a larger syllabus, the CMAT is tougher than the KMAT exam. 5. Acceptance: The CMAT score has more acceptance for admission to MBA courses, unlike the KMAT. Which is only for Karnataka business schools.
Q:   What is the admission process through the KMAT entrance exam?
A:
The KMAT exam is conducted by the Karnataka Private Postgraduate College Association. The admission process through the KMAT entrance exam is as follows: 1. Register for KMAT by filling out an application form at the official KMAT portal. 2. After the successful announcement of KMAT results, the participating colleges will start the admissions process. 3. Based on available seats in each course, the colleges will announce course-wise cutoffs. 4. Those who meet the cutoffs for their respective colleges must apply on the college's official website. 5. Some colleges will conduct an interview or group discussion round with shortlisted candidates for admission. 6. Some other colleges admit students based on their academic scores at graduation and KMAT scores. 7. After this, colleges will publish a list of selected candidates in each course who will have to pay the course fee by the due date.
Q:   What is the KMAT exam duration?
A:

The KMAT exam is held for two hours or 120 minutes. There is only one slot for the KMAT exam. KMAT exam does not have any sectional time limit. This means, that the candidates can take the KMAT exam according to their preference and can switch between sections and questions as per their need. There is no provision of changing the exam slot. And there is no provision to apply for the same. Candidates have to take the KMAT exam from the safe environment of their homes as the exam will be conducted in the internet-based test mode and the candidates have to choose their slot for the exam day.

Q:   Can I appear for KMAT more than once in a year?
A:

No, candidates cannot appear more than once for the KMAT exam. The KMAT exam is held only once a year. Candidates have to wait for the next session if they miss this year's exam. The KMAT exam is being conducted in the IBT (internet-based test or online remote proctored) mode. Based on the Karnataka Management Aptitude Test scores, students can apply for admission to various programs offered by KMAT participating colleges. The exam will only be conducted in the internet-based test mode for all the sessions. The difficulty level of the KMAT exam is usually easy and the candidates can easily prepare for this exam. Candidates who wish to appear for the KMAT exam need to apply on the official website of KMAT India and fill out the KMAT application form once the application window opens. KMAT is held in about 10 test cities in the state of Karantaka, but since the exam is being held in the remote proctored mode, candidates do not have to visit the exam centre to take the exam.

Q:   Which exam is tougher, PGCET or KMAT?
A:
The level of difficulty of the exam is the same in both the KPGCET and the KMAT. The PGCET is conducted by KEA for MBA and other postgraduate courses, whereas the KMAT is for MCA and MBA courses in private colleges. 1. Due to eligibility requirements, competition for KMAT is higher than for PG CET because it is a national-level exam. 2. This leads to a higher score requirement at top colleges accepting KMAT. Unlike with PGCET, where you are assigned a college based on rank. 3. The level of difficulty of the questions varies from year to year in KMAT. Most of the moderate-to-difficult questions on the KMAT are in the reasoning and quantitative sections. 4. Since there is no negative marking, candidates can find both exams at their moderate level. 5. The GK questions in the PG CET can be challenging due to the vast syllabus, but mostly the question level is easier.
Q:   How can I crack KMAT in 1 year?
A:
Hi, KMAT is a management entrance test, aims to test candidates ability in language skills, mathematics, basic aptitude and logical reasoning. Understand the formulas/concepts and solve problems as much as possible. Through knowledge of the concept helps you to solve the problems accurately. Formulas should be on the tip of your fingers to attain the speed while solving the problem. It is essential for candidates to enrich and improve language skills in all the aspects. Referring to some of the grammar books, reading newspapers and magazines will update your vocabulary and core skills as well (reading, writing and speaking). While solving the puzzle /problem it is important for you to analyze it by asking questions like what, why, when and how. Solving puzzles regularly enables you to gain accuracy. Try to solve previous year question papers and attend mock test to get familiar with the exam pattern. In addition to this, it enables you to test your preparations. Joining coaching classes is one more option to prepare for the exam. You can also solve all the queries during the sessions.

A good score in KMAT is subjective. However, a score between 104 to 106 can be considered good for the general category for admission to the tier I KMAT colleges. Whereas for admission to Tier 2 and Tier 3 colleges in Karnataka, a KMAT score between 70-80 is also fine.
