Commonly asked questions
AIIMS has established a tie-breaker criterion to assess the performance of candidates scoring the same marks in the AIIMS nursing exam. Some of the criteria are:
AIIMS typically releases only one cut-off score for the B.Sc. Nursing program. A merit list is created based on the exam (and possibly interview) results. Candidates above the cut-off for their category are invited for counselling where they choose their preferred AIIMS institute based on their rank and seat availability. There might be a mop-up round for vacant seats, but the cut-off score remains the same.
The AIIMS nursing entrance is conducted for admission to AIIMS BSc (hons). A separate entrance exam is conducted for admission to the AIIMS Nursing (Post Basic) programme. Candidates must check the AIIMS Nursing eligibility criteria mentioned below to appear for the entrance exam:
Eligibilty Criteria for AIIMS BSc (Hons)
- It is mandatory to clear or have passed Class 12 exams or equivalent exams from a recognised board with Physics Chemistry, Biology and English subjects.
- Candidate must have secured a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate in class 12.
- SC/ST category candidates should have secured 50 per cent in aggregate.
Eligibilty Criteria for AIIMS BSc (Post basic)
- To appear in the BSc (Post basic) nursing exam, candidates possessing a Diploma in GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) from any Indian Nursing Council recognised institution are eligible to apply.
- In addition, the applicant must have registered themselves as nurses or midwives with the State Nursing Council.
- A mandatory six months of training as a registered nurse.
No, all colleges issue a different cutoff score for admission to the AIIMS BSc nursing programme. Candidates will be allotted a college on the basis of the cutoff score in the written exam and performance in the interview round. Candidates will have to check the cutoff score of each institute individually to participate in the counselling process.
Category-wise Qualifying Cutoff
The AIIMS Nursing cutoff has two types of cutoffs. Let us see in detail:
Qualifying cutoff (marks-based): The All India Institute of Medical Sciences notifies the minimum qualifying marks for each category separately.
For UR and EWS candidates, the minimum percentile notified was 50% (50 marks out of 100). Candidates scoring below their category's qualifying mark were not cleared the exam and hence were not called for counselling.
Admission cutoff (rank/percentile-based): The closing All India Rank at which a seat was actually allotted at a given AIIMS campus in a particular counselling round. This is announced separately, campus by campus, after each round.
| Category |
Qualifying Marks (Approx.) |
|---|---|
| UR / EWS |
50% |
| OBC |
45% |
| SC / ST / PwD |
40% |
The above act as the minimum qualifying marks to become eligible to be considered for selection. It does not guarantee selection in the AIIMS BSc entrance exam 2026.
What After the AIIMS BSc Nursing Entrance Merit List?
- Candidates will be asked to log in with their application number and password to select AIIMS. After considering the choices of all selected candidates, AIIMS will prepare a seat allocation list and release it under the candidates' login.

- The candidates who want to wait for the next round can exercise this option within the given time limit.
Candidates are advised to keep original certificates — class 10 and 12 mark sheets, category certificate, domicile proof, and photo ID — ready before counselling begins.
