Thapar University (TIET Patiala) offers several courses through its 7 Schools, but it is most famous for its BTech and MBA courses. The admission rule is simple and depend on the course you are opting:

  1. BTech / BE: This is the most popular choice among students. In order to secure a BTech seat, a valid score in JEE Main exam is required.
  2. MBA: MBA admissions at Thapar University are based Thapar Management Aptitude Test (TMAT). It also accepts valid score in CAT, XAT, NMAT or MAT exam.
  3. MTech: Clearing GATE is the only to get an MTech seat at Thapar University.

Candidate needs to register on the college portal.

  • Submit all the documents & pay the application fee (INR 1500).

Selection Process

Once applications close, Thapar university prepares a Merit List based on exam scores. If a candidate's name is on the list, they will be invited to attend Counselling sessions

Secure Admission

Admission is then confirmed by reporting to Thapar University with required documents and required Thapar University fees.

LPU generally offers more scholarship routes, including up to 60% through certain LPUNEST/academic criteria, while Thapar's 2026–27 merit scholarships can include full tuition plus  development fee waiver for top JEE Main performers.

For B.Tech CSE, I'd choose Thapar Institute if fees are not a major constraint. It has a stronger engineering reputation and generally better placement outcomes; LPU is worth considering mainly if you get a substantial scholarship.
