Three of India’s total Four Asian Games Gold Medals Won by Chandigarh University Athletes

CHANDIGARH: Clinching three Gold Medals of the total four Gold Medals won by India so far at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, Chandigarh University student athletes have delivered a standout performance at the continental sporting event. The remarkable medal haul has come across 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team, Women’s Kabaddi and Men’s Kabaddi, placing Chandigarh University athletes at the heart of India’s golden campaign at one of Asia’s biggest multi-sport events. 

Kabaddi emerged as a golden arena for Chandigarh University at the 2026 Asian Games, with four CU athletes featuring across India’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams, which together secured gold medals in both events.

Led by Chandigarh University’s Pushpa Rana as captain, the Indian women’s kabaddi team secured gold, while CU athletes Pawan Sehrawat, vice-captain of the men’s kabaddi team, Aslam Inamdar and Ashu Malik powered India’s men’s campaign to another gold. The four CU athletes thus featured across both of India’s gold-winning kabaddi teams at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

The Indian women’s team, led by CU athlete Pushpa Rana, produced a hard-fought performance to defeat Iran 37–34 in the final, successfully defending India’s Asian Games title. 

The Indian men’s kabaddi team then completed the kabaddi gold-medal double, retaining its Asian Games crown with a 39–35 victory over Iran in the final. Chandigarh University athletes Ashu Malik, Aslam Inamdar and Pawan Sehrawat were part of the gold-winning Indian squad, giving the university representation in both of India’s kabaddi triumphs at the Games. Chandigarh University’s Suruchi Singh clinched gold in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. 

Elated over the marvelous feat of student athletes of Chandigarh University at Asian Games in Japan, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor Chandigarh University Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “It indeed is a proud moment for all of us that Chandigarh University athletes have won 3 Gold Medals out of the total 4 Gold Medals won by India. A strong 24-athlete Chandigarh University contingent is competing across 12 sports at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. CU in the past earned the unique distinction of becoming the first university in the country to win the prestigious Khelo India University Games title for two years in a row. And prior to that also CU had become the first private university in the country to win the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.”
