Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) is also known as Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). It is a public university & founded in 2000. - AKTU was established on 26 July 2000 as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) through the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
- To ensure proper management & administrative ease, the university was divided into Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) & Mahamaya Technical University (MTU), from 1 May 2010.
- In 2013, as the new government came into power, UPTU University, Lucknow was merged as a single university combining the two on 5 January 2013.
- In 2015, UPTU Lucknow was renamed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).
