IIT Bombay MDes Eligibility & Highlights 2025
IIT Bombay offers an MDes course of two-year spread across four semesters. The institute offers MDes through Industrial Design Centre in five specialisations at the PG level. Below is IIT Bombay MDes eligibility criteria:
Aspirants who have completed graduation with at least 55% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ ST/ PwD) or equivalent grades in the qualifying degree for individual streams can apply for MDes programme.

The total tuition fee for IIT Bombay MDes is INR 1 Lacs as per an unofficial source. Students belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD category or a child of institution staff are exempted from paying the tuition fee. There is a concessional and a non-concessional fee for candidates belonging to General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL category. The concessional is offered on tuition fee. Candidates apart from the tuition fee are required to pay examination fee, medical fee, etc. Students not staying in hostel are exempted from the payment of hostel fee.
Apart from the course fee, candidates also have to pay a registration fee of INR 300 for General/ OBC Male and INR 150 for SC/ ST/ PwD and female candidates.
The average and median packages offered during IIT Bombay placements 2024 stood at INR 23.5 LPA and INR 17.92 LPA, respectively. The overall placement rate recorded during IIT Bombay placements 2024 was 74.53% with 1,475 students participating in the process out of 1,979 students. A total of 930 students registered, 819 students participated and 683 students were placed durinng BTech placements 2024. The placement percentage went this low because of minimal or no participation in the placement process from over 400 students. Most of them went for higher studies, such as MS / MTech / PhD and MBA courses, while many opted for entrepreneurship or civil services.
More than 22 students received offers above INR 1 CPA during IIT Bombay placements 2024. Earlier, The highest international and domestic package offered during IIT Bombay placements 2023 stood at INR 3.67 crore per annum and INR 1.68 crore per annum, respectively. Further, an improving trend was witnessed in the highest international package offered over the past three years during IIT Bombay placements. The institute offers Merit-cum-Means Scholarship to a maximum of 25% of the sanctioned intake of UG and MSc students. Facilities of Free Messing is also available to SC/ ST students under which they get an exemption from paying the tuition fees. Yes, IIT Bombay offers Merit-cum-Means Scholarship to UG students. It is awarded to a maximum of 25% of sanctioned intake. For Dual degree, it is available only up to fourth year.
Merit Criterion: For new entrants of BDes their UCEED Rank, will be the criterion. In subsequent years, the criterion will be their academic performance during the preceding academic year.
Means Criterion: The parental income is the basis for the ‘means' criterion of the scholarship. At present, students with parents annual gross income from all sources for the previous Financial year does not exceed INR 5 Lacs are eligible to apply for Merit cum Means Scholarship.

IIT Bombay admission to all the courses is entrance-based (Except for EMBA, where admission is merit-based and performance in the interview round). 2: Selection Rounds
IIT Bombay shortlists candidates for MDes course based on CEED score. After qualifying CEED, the institute releases a category-wise merit list for each stream. Shortlisted candidates have to appear for IDC written test followed by an interview round for final selection.
3: Merit List & Counselling
After completion of the selection rounds, a final merit list is released. The shortlisted aspirants have to come for verification of documents and confirm their seat by paying the course fee.

IIT Bombay admission to MDes programme is entrance-based. Candidates have to follow the below steps to get a seat in the MDes programme:
Step 1: Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements have to pay an application fee to register for MDes course.
Step 2: IIT Bombay selects candidates for MDes programme based on CEED score. After qualifying CEED, the institute releases a category-wise merit list for each stream. Eligible candidates are required to appear for an IDC (written test) and an interview round.
Step 3: After the completion of the selection rounds, IITB releases a final merit list. Selected candidates will then have to appear for the verification of documents in order to complete the admission.
Yes, IIT Bombay conducts Common Entrance Exam for Design or CEED for admission to MDes programme. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in online mode. It is a three-hour exam conducted once in a year. Candidates shortlisted based on CEED rank have to also appear for IDC written test conducted by the institute. The shortlisted aspirants are further require to come for an interview round for final selection.
CEED is the acceptance exam to get admission into the MDes course at IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay MDes Cutoff 2024 has been released. IIT Bombay MDes cutoff 2024 is based on CEED scores 2024 followed by the round-wise CEED Counselling. IIT Bombay CEED cutoff 2024 is out for Part A. Yes, students from all the streams can apply for B.Des programme at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore. They can fill the Joint seat allocation form if they have cleared the UCEED 2026 Entrance Exam.

UCEED 2026 counselling will be conducted by IIT Bombay. The counselling process will have five rounds.
UCEED 2026 Joint Admission Process will not have any spot rounds. If there are any spot counselling rounds, it will be notified.

No, IIT Bombay will not send the hard copies of CEED 2026 Scorecard. The scorecard of CEED will be issued only in online mode. The candidate has to download it from the CEED admission portal - ceed.iitb.ac.in. To download the scorecard, log in by entering your email id and password.
