Jamia Millia Islamia PhD Eligibility & Highlights 2025

JMI PhD admissions are based on candidates’ performance in a written test conducted by JMI, followed by an interview round and evaluation of the research proposal. Candidates have to secure at least 50% marks each in both Section A and B to qualify for the test and appear for further rounds. The following category of candidates shall be exempted from appearing in the entrance test for PhD admission:

Candidates who have qualified UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ SLET/ GATE or have completed MPhil from a recognised university/ institute
The teacher fellowship holders provided that the competent employing authority issues a NOC to the candidate to join the PhD programme and an undertaking that the candidate will be granted leave for the duration of the required coursework

Jamia Millia Islamia a place to study, get educated, enjoy and build career!

Placements: The placement percentage of my course approximately 90% with respectable job profiles and a handsome salary package. The starting monthly salary ranges from INR35000 (the lowest), INR70000 (Average) to more than INR150000 (the highest). Most of the recruiting agencies are government organizations such as Universities, Ministry, Research Institutes and private colleges as well as foreign and overseas organizations. The major job profiles offered to students completed my course include teaching positions (Assistant Professor), research leader, project staff and Scientist. As my course is research-based so an internship is not required in this.

Infrastructure: The facilities include modest and spacious infrastructure spread in 5 storey building with lift facility, well-furnished laboratories, state of the art smart classrooms, Computer Lab, Fully Wi-Fi, Air Conditioned Library with a wide range of books, journals, thesis, magazines, etc. Apart from that, there is also a separate canteen, Xerox and Stationery Shop and a Seminar Hall for conferences and other events. The hostel is also very modern with lush green gardens, cleanliness, spacious rooms, washing machines, and laundry, both Indian and Western Style Restrooms. All the building of department and hostel friendly for handicapped persons. The quality of the food is very good. It's not only budget, unlimited and healthy but also tasty which is the main concern of college students due to poor quality. Separate canteen, reading hall, common room with Plasma TV for indoor games and sports grounds are also available in hostel premises.

Faculty: The teaching faculty of JMI is one of the worth mentioning because not only they are renowned and knowledgeable but up to date with recent advancements in education and technology. They have adequate subject expertise and very friendly behaviour towards students in discussing things and topics. Although I am enrolled in a higher degree course that doesn't have any syllabus but I have gone through the UG and PG syllabus which is very comprehensive and updated with a focus on practical aspects. Also, the syllabus of course work for Ph.D. students is very diverse to cover all the major themes of biology. Yes, my course curriculum is very relevant and imparts enough exposure and skills to get absorbed in Industries.

Other: I have heard a lot about the research facilities including state of the art and modern laboratories and publications of the Biosciences department which drive my focus to become part of this prestigious institution. Faculty profile and strong academic collaborations are the key things that matter a lot for the career of research students and fortunately, these are the best things of Jamia. The thing which I think needed badly in my University is the missing involvement of R & D Labs, Companies and Industries. Also, I suggest the start of the weekly Journal Club Forum to discuss the happenings going on within the department and share knowledge between peers which is also not available here.

Good infrastructure and facilities, some department like Mass communication, B.Arch and B.Tech.

Placements: There are no placements after Ph.D. in our batch and in our senior batch as well. The highest salary offered was 65000/month and minimum salary offered was 40000/month. The roles offered to students was generally a role of a research scholar, as a scientist and as a scientific writer in a private firm.

Infrastructure: Wi-fi and Lab facility is good, Classrooms are okay. A very good sports complex is available for students and teachers. Gym facility is also there. A big library with the facility of Books from all areas. Th quality of food available in the canteen is good. Hostel rooms are good.

Faculty: Teachers were highly educated, qualified and were very helpful. Teaching quality was also good. Teachers have used all the methods like board, projectors animations and videos to explain their subjects. I never got the industrial experience during my Ph.D. I hope the curriculum will be useful.

Satisfied because faculty is very good and placements are also okay.

Placements: The placements were average for our batch and our seniors; students get an average package of 4-5 lacs per annum. Almost 50% of students got placed in our batch. The highest package offered was 6 lacs per annum, and the lowest was 3 lacs per annum. The companies which visited are Axis Bank, Naukri.com, ITC, etc. Mostly, the profile was for sales.

Infrastructure: In our campus, we have free Wi-Fi facility and air conditions in our classes. We have smart classrooms, and there is a computer lab. Our department has its own air-conditioned library, and there is also a very big sports complex with various sports facilities in our university. The quality of food is very good in our campus canteen. Hostel facilities are very good, we have all the facilities in hostels like washing machines, refrigerators, inductions, etc.

Faculty: The teachers of our department are very helpful; they are ready to help the students anytime. They are highly qualified with a lot of good teaching experience, and they have a wide knowledge of the subjects. The teaching quality is very good; they use practical methods for teaching. We do go on industrial visits from our department accompanied by our teachers.

Other: We have our college fest named Miras and as well as our departmental fest named Aalen.
