Q:   Is NIT Rourkela hard to get in?

NIT Rourkela offers courses in UG, PG and part-level. The Institute offers admission based on valid scores of accepted entrance exams such as JEE Main/ GATE/ IIT JAM or other equivalent. Candidates are required to qualify for the JoSAA counselling and seek final admission based on the qualification of all the selection rounds.

Q:   What percentile is required for admission to NIT Rourkela?
A: 

Admission to NIT Rourkela is conducted through GATE CCMT scores. Based on the scores, the NIT Rourkela cutoff 2024 is released for the candidates. As per the cutoff released, getting a percentile of 35 is crucial to get an admission. Candidates must score the minimum score to qualify for the MHTCET exam and get eligible for admission.

The minimum marks to get eligible for the NIT Rourkela is 351 (M.Tech. in Thermal Science and Energy Engineering) for the General All India category candidates. NIT Rourkela BTech cutoff 2022 has been concluded for DASA UG, followed by Direct Admission of Students Abroad counselling. DASA UG counselling was concluded after Round 3 of the seat allotment results for various categories. During the Round 1 cutoff, the NIT Rourkela cutoff ranged between 260 and 938 for the General AI category quota students. For the last round, the cutoff varied between 309 and 938, wherein BTech in Computer Science and Engineering was the most competitive course. Comparing the latest year cutoff with previous years, the BTech in CSE saw a decreasing trend in its last round closing ranks for the students belonging to the General AI quota. The Metallurgy and Materials Engineering Department of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela is one of the most well-respected and the oldest departments present in the country. It offers a B.Tech degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, which is accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation). The students of NIT Rourkela can apply for scholarships offered by the National or State Government. PhD scholarship/ fellowship is also offered to students by the institute. Below mentioned are the details of some of the NIT Rourkela Scholarships:

  1. Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS): SC/ ST students are eligible for Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Government.
  2. Top Class Scholarship: Among the admitted students in the first year top 12 SC students and top 5 ST students are eligible for the scholarship by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GOI provided their parental annual income is below INR 4.5 lakh.
  3. GATE Scholarship: Students who have taken admission through GATE are eligible for a scholarship of INR 8,000 per month.
  4. PhD scholarship: A PhD student with MTech/ MPharm degree and within the age limit is eligible for an Institute research fellowship for four years. The students will get INR 31,000 per month for the first two years and INR 35,000 per month for the next two years on satisfactory performance.

Yes,  NIT Rourkela campus is safe for girls and boys. The college campus is located in Odisha. It has a good connection with roads and public transports. CCTV cameras are installed in the campus to keep a check on students safety.
