RGNUL LLM Eligibility & Highlights 2025
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, famously known as NLU Patiala, offers a full-time LLM programme at the PG level. The duration of the course is one year. The PG-level programme is offered in three specialisations. RGNUL LLM specialisations include Business Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and International Law. Candidates are selected based on CLAT.
After appearing for the entrance exam, candidates must register for the CLAT counselling for seat allocation. Before applying for admission, candidates must ensure that they fulfil the following RGNUL LLM eligibility criteria:
- The candidate must pass a LLB/BA LLB degree with a minimum 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ST candidates)
- Candidates appearing in/awaiting results of the above-mentioned examination, being held in April/May may also apply for admission.

For admission to one-year LLM or five-year LLB at RGNLU Patiala, CLAT test is usually conducted in December. Aspirants of RGNLU Patiala need to appear for the exam in offline pen-paper mode at the allotted test centres.
- The CLAT question paper for undergraduate courses has total 120 passage-based objective-type questions from five subjects - English Language, CLAT Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, Current Affairs including General Knowledge and Quantitative Techniques.

Every year, the cut off marks for the CLAT exam are affected due to the following factors:
- The difficulty level of the exam. In case the question paper is easy then the CLAT cut offs are expected to go high and vice-versa.
- Total number of applications received. If the total applications received are less then the cut off is expected to be relaxed.
- Total candidates qualifying CLAT exam. If the total number of qualifying candidates is less than the total seats then cut off goes low
- Total number of seats. If the total number of seats is revised and increased then cut off is expected to remain low
- Previous year cut offs. For the top NLUs, the cut-off marks in previous years were high, therefore, only topper candidates could make it for final admissions. Fore other NLUs, the cut off marks are relatively low.

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law offers courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The university offers five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons), One-year LLM and a PG Diploma course. The university offers admission to the flagship course (BA LLB) based on CLAT score. The selection for PG Diploma is based on merit of the candidates in the last qualifying exam.

RGNUL LLM Admission 2025: How to Apply?
The RGNUL LLM admission process starts with the registration for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The CLAT application process is conducted online. It includes registration, submission of application fees, & uploading the required documents. Follow the below-mentioned steps for CLAT registration:
1: Visit the official site of the Consortium of NLUs at www.consortiumofnlus.ac.in.
2: Register as a new user by completing the registration form.
3: Verify your phone number for account activation.
4: Log in to fill out the CLAT application form with all the required info.
5: Select at least 3 cities as preferred examination centres & the reservation category.
6: List the NLUs in order of preference. All the participating NLUs will be listed on this page. Here, candidates must place RGNUL at the top of the list.
7: Pay the application fee (which is category-specific) in online mode using credit or debit cards, or net banking.
The application form is automatically submitted after the successful payment of the application fees. For General/OBC/PWD/PIO/OCI/NRI category candidates, the application fee is 4,000. For SC/ST/BPL category candidates, the application fee is 3,500.
After appearing for the CLAT, candidates must register for the CLAT counselling process for RGNUL admission. Seats will be allocated to the candidates based on their CLAT ranks & NLU preferences marked by them. Candidates must submit a registration fee of 50,000 while registering for the CLAT counselling. Candidates can accept (freeze), upgrade or exit from their allotted seat in any round of counselling. Once their preferred seat is allotted to them, candidates can complete the process by paying RGNUL fees.

The BA LLB (Hons) course had the cutoff of 1059, and all the LLM course specialisations, had the cutoff of 824.

As per the CLAT RGNUL 2nd cut off 2025, the closing rank for general category candidate is 1260 through All India counselling. There is no state quota seats available at NLU Patiala in the 2nd allotment list.
