B.Sc. Biotechnology from Punjab Technical University.

Placements: Our university has a well-managed placement cell. Many companies visit the campus to hire some of the best brains in the country. But for Biotechnology, the placement is not so good. I was the gold medalist of my batch but still decided not to go to any company and they do not offer a good package to B.Sc. Students. A couple of students did get placed. The average salary must have been somewhat 15-20k. However, a lot of students prefer to do MS from abroad and get a job there only. The roles offered were entry-level jobs such as Quality manager, technical assistant and so on. Students do get internships from college given that they are interested in internships. As it is optional so many students opt out. Mostly the internship is unpaid.

Infrastructure: My university has one of the best infrastructures. The whole classrooms are Wi-Fi enabled. We have a well-maintained library. The is also sports ground and we have our own teams for many games. Even there are teams divided branch wise. We do have labs but it is only of basic level. There is no costly instruments or full fledged research facility for B.Sc. Students. The mess food is okay and good upto some extent. As I do not perfer to eat outside so I was not a huge fan of canteen food. The hostels are well-kept and on sharing basis. The rooms are spacious and we have all the facilities required. I did not face any infrastructure related issue during my stay.

Faculty: The teachers are good and very helpful. They give recommendations and encourage studetns to apply for doing MS from Canada and so on. The teaching quality is also good. You can go and ask doubts to any professor and they often welcome it. The teaching methods are normal and follow the text book approach. The student-faculty ratio is not very high and it must be somewhat 15:1. We did not have any industrial exposure so I would not be able to comment on that aspect.

Hi, If you are pursuing a career in biotechnology then you must be aware that this field is still developing in India. After a B.Tech degree, students can find jobs in pharmaceutical companies, research labs and institutions in India. Choose a course according to your interest. Best of luck.
