Established in 1857, Mumbai University (MU) is a state-run institution, recognised by the UGC and accredited with an A++ grade by the NAAC. According to the NIRF Ranking 2024, Mumbai University is at 61 position among the top Universities in India. University of Mumbai offers more than 200 Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, Doctoral, and Certificate programmes in Engineering, Arts, Science, Management, Law, etc. Mumbai University also provides distance learning programmes through its Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL Mumbai University), in addition to its full-time and part-time courses.

A total of 28 students were placed in the past year. Out of all the available schools, the School of Physical Sciences is the top recruiting school. The college witnessed the participation of top corporate giants like Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, ACTREC, Max Planck Society, Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (AEI), etc. 

University of Mumbai (MU) is one of the most pretigious universities in India, not to mention one of the oldest. The university is ranked. MU is ranked at the 664th spot by the QS World University Rankings 2026 and 245 by the QS Asia Rankings 2025. Furthermore, the university is ranked #61 in the 'University' category by the NIRF 2024.

Being one of the first 3 universities established in the nation, University of Mumbai has 56 departments and over 700 affiliated colleges with around 5,00,000 students enrolled. Some of the prominent alumni who have graduated from MU include names such as Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Lal Krishna Advani, Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Ajay Devgn, Sunil Gavaskar, Shabana Azmi, Vasundhara Raje, among others.

Like any other Institution/University maintaining an attendance of 75% is mandatory for the students at Mumbai University. The University has its own Attendance Committee, for the smooth conduct of this ordinance in every Department. As per the Attendance Ordinance, candidates must maintain at least 75% attendance for each course & average attendance. If the students fail to maintain the number, the department/college doesn’t forward the examination form to the University exam unit. However, a minimum attendance of 50% is considered in special cases like health issues, family losses, etc.

 The University of Mumbai (MU) releases multiple merit lists every year followed by a counselling and document verification process to offer admission to students in MU-affiliated colleges. Mumbai University merit list are released for admission to more than 750 affiliated colleges in programmes such as FYBA, FYBSWA, FYBCom, FYBSc, FYBMS, FYBVoc, FYB Library Science and FYBPA. These merit lists University carries the names of students who are shortlisted on the basis of marks they have obtained in their last qualifying examinations. Mumbai University admissions are held on the basis of merit-cum-entrance. Students must clear their previous qualifying examination and appear for the prescribed entrance test for the particular course they are interested in. MU admissions accept entrance exams, such as CUET,  MHT CET,  MAH CET,  JEE Main,  NEET, and CMAT, among others.

The first MU college merit list 2025 for undergraduate admissions has been released for several affiliated colleges.

Students need to first visit the official website of the college they applied to as each affiliated college releases its merit list on its own portal and then navigate to the “Admissions 2025–26” or  the 'Merit List' section which is  typically featured as a banner or in the latest announcements section. Students can then check their name and other details in the MU merit list 2025.

The affiliated courses to Mumbai University accepts MHT CET exam. To get into the colleges, the Mumbai University cutoff 2024 for the CSE course stood at 27.66 for the General AI category candidates. Similarly, for the Information Technology course, the MHT CET cutoff stood between 2.47 and 95.27. Moreover, BE in Aritificial Intelligence cutoff stood at 68.94 for the General AI quota.
