VIT Vellore PhD Eligibility & Highlights 2026
VIT University, Vellore offers PhD at the doctoral level. The programme is offered under Internal (Full-Time), Internal (Part-Time) & External (Part-Time) modes. Usually, students can appear for VITREE, conducted by the VIT Vellore to secure admission to the PhD programme. The university offers PhD in several streams, such as Science, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Fashion Technology and Management.
- Students looking for admission to PhD are evaluated based on the overall merit index of the candidate which is arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at master’s level and the performance in the written test, research output and/ the performance in PI round at VIT.
- Students, who have already qualified in CSIR NET/ GATE/ UGC NET/ or any other national-level entrance test, will get a direct call for the PI from the respective department of the Deemed University
The min. period of study & research from the date of registration for the PhD course to the date of submission of the thesis is 30 months for full-time research scholars and 36 months for part-time research scholars.
Selection criteria: Final selection of the students is done on the basis of the overall merit of the candidate in the previous qualifying examination at master’s level and performance in the written test, followed by research output and performance in a personal interview.

The total tuition fee for VIT Vellore BTech ranges between INR 4.9 lakh and 7.8 lakh. The total course fee, includes a caution deposit of INR 3,000 as well. The fee will vary as per the specialisation selected by the candidates. BTech is available in 24 specialisations, namely Computer Science and Engineering (Bioinformatics), Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, etc. Aspirants are required to pay the course fee after completion of all the selection rounds to confirm their seats. Candidates can pay the registration fee via any of the online payment mode. The application fee is INR 1350.

The Vellore Institute of Technology has announced the VITMEE exam dates on the official website. VITMEE exam was scheduled for April 28, 2026 and May 3, 2026. Applicants had to carry their VITMEE admit card along with one valid photo ID proof at the exam centre.
The institute shortlists candidates for MBA course based on national-level entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, GMAT, CMAT, NMAT or ATMA. The shortlisted aspirants are further required to come for the PI round. Vellore Institute of Technology will also consider the academic performance and work experience of the candidates for final selection. Candidates who have passed regular, full-time UG/ Integrated degree from a recognised institute/ university of at least three years of duration with a minimum of 60% aggregate (50% for SC/ ST candidates and applicants belonging to Jammu & Kashmir and North-Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) can apply for the MBA course. After the completion of the selection rounds, the shortlisted aspirants are called for counselling. Selected aspirants need to pay a fee to confirm their admission. The official VITEEE 2026 dates will be released soon. The schedule should be checked regularly so that the students can be updated with the important examination and admission events. If any date is changed or postponed, the authorities will announce it online. Therefore, the candidates are advised to remain updated with the VIT 2026 schedule at the official website.
Candidates will be able to access their VITEEE result online at vit.ac.in. To download the VITEEE result, the candidates will have to log in using their application number and password. The authorities will not use any other mode to release the VIT result. The institute conducts VITEEE for BTech admission, VITMEE for M.Tech admissions and VITREE for PhD admission. The institute accepts national-level entrance exams like CAT, XAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT, ATMA, etc., for MBA course. However, admission to a few other courses, including BSc, BSc (Hons), BCA, BCom, MSc, MCA, among others, is based on the aggregate obtained by the candidates in previous qualifying degree/ exam (merit-based). VIT Vellore PhD Scholarships
VIT Vellore offers the following fellowships and scholarships to the meritorious students pursuing PhD programme from VIT Vellore:
- All internal full-time scholars admitted into PhD programme will get a fellowship of INR 20,000 per month for three years.
- All Internal full-time scholars who have a valid GATE score percentile of 80 or above are entitled to get a fellowship worth INR 25,000 per month.
- Apart from this, scholars are encouraged to apply for JRF (CSIR / UGC)/ Inspire Fellowships/ Rajiv Gandhi Scholarships (minority community and backward community).
