VIT Vellore PhD Eligibility & Highlights 2026
VIT University, Vellore offers PhD at the doctoral level. The programme is offered under Internal (Full-Time), Internal (Part-Time) & External (Part-Time) modes. Usually, students can appear for VITREE, conducted by the VIT Vellore to secure admission to the PhD programme. The university offers PhD in several streams, such as Science, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Fashion Technology and Management.
- Students looking for admission to PhD are evaluated based on the overall merit index of the candidate which is arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at master’s level and the performance in the written test, research output and/ the performance in PI round at VIT.
- Students, who have already qualified in CSIR NET/ GATE/ UGC NET/ or any other national-level entrance test, will get a direct call for the PI from the respective department of the Deemed University
The min. period of study & research from the date of registration for the PhD course to the date of submission of the thesis is 30 months for full-time research scholars and 36 months for part-time research scholars.
Selection criteria: Final selection of the students is done on the basis of the overall merit of the candidate in the previous qualifying examination at master’s level and performance in the written test, followed by research output and performance in a personal interview.

Candidates who have passed regular, full-time UG/ Integrated degree from a recognised institute/ university of at least three years of duration with a minimum of 60% aggregate (50% for SC/ ST candidates and applicants belonging to Jammu & Kashmir and North-Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) can apply for the MBA course. After the completion of the selection rounds, the shortlisted aspirants are called for counselling. Selected aspirants need to pay a fee to confirm their admission. There are mainly two types of scholarships offered at VIT Vellore viz. Scholarships under the STARS programme and GVSDP scholarship.
Vellore Institute of Technology offers scholarships in the form of tuition waivers and freeships. In addition, scholarships are given to students who excel in sports and games. Financial assistance is also provided to students who wish to do their project work in partner universities and institutions abroad, under the Semester Abroad Programme (SAP). No, VIT Vellore admissions are not solely based on VITEEE. The university conducts VITEEE for BTech admission, VITMEE for MTech admissions and VITREE for PhD admission. Candidates will be able to access their VITEEE result online at vit.ac.in. To download the VITEEE result, the candidates will have to log in using their application number and password. VIT Vellore PhD Scholarships
VIT Vellore offers the following fellowships and scholarships to the meritorious students pursuing PhD programme from VIT Vellore:
- All internal full-time scholars admitted into PhD programme will get a fellowship of INR 20,000 per month for three years.
- All Internal full-time scholars who have a valid GATE score percentile of 80 or above are entitled to get a fellowship worth INR 25,000 per month.
- Apart from this, scholars are encouraged to apply for JRF (CSIR / UGC)/ Inspire Fellowships/ Rajiv Gandhi Scholarships (minority community and backward community).

The internship percentage is also more than 90 percent. Top recruiting companies offering are Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Visa, etc. Wi-Fi is available in the library and every hostel block, with a pretty good internet speed. There are very clean washrooms and there is no crowd in the washrooms in the morning or during peak hours, too. Faculty members are well educated and do fair checking of exams.
