My journey at JGU transformed me into a confident and independent person, says Ritika Sharma
We all have a chapter in our lives which we believe to have played an important role in our growth. Such a chapter in my life has been JGBS.
All my school life I had actively participated in both, academics and co-curricular activities. I was the bronze medalist in my school and got into various colleges across the country but being the youngest one of three siblings, I have always been the pampered kid. So, my family was more scared than me from the idea of me going to a far-off place. And that is when an admission call from Jindal Global Business School (JGBS) came as a relief to them.
Living in Sonepat we had never seen the University, so when we visited JGU we got really impressed by the infrastructure, the faculty, the course structure and especially by the state-of-the-art library, which had any and every facility that a student can ask for. And the fact that it is a fully residential university meant that I could live in hostel and learn to be independent, and at the same time be in the same city as my family. Therefore, I ended up taking admission in JGU. And considering my time in JGU, it turned out to be a good decision.
The kind of environment I got helped me adjust really easily. Every activity that I did, whether within the class or outside provided so many opportunities to me to learn and grow. The professors were always supportive and helped me realise my true potential.
JGU always supports good students and boosts their confidence, mine was boosted by the enormous support from my professors and the 100 per cent scholarship, I received. But I knew that for an individual’s growth extracurricular activities are as important as academics. Based on my interest, I joined the Rotaract Club from among the various clubs that the University offers. Looking back, I believe that was the best decision I made in my college life. From being a member in the first year to becoming the Treasurer in the second and then the Secretary of the club in the third year, I got so much exposure and opportunity to work and develop my leadership skills that I might not have been able to develop otherwise.
JGU taught me management in true sense. My schedule had become so hectic in the second year that I did not even have a single minute free. As a student, I attended my classes, did group projects, and performed my duties as a course coordinator, as the Treasurer I attended meetings and managed the Rotaract accounts, and as a Student Assistant, I helped my juniors in mathematics twice a day. I also worked for college fests and various events and conferences that JGBS conducted. Though it was hard in the beginning but as time passed, I learnt the art of management and performed all these tasks with my 100 per cent. This same year I also secured first position in my batch because of which I learnt that we can participate and perform in various tasks given we sincerely invest ourselves in those tasks.
The school provided me with the opportunity to be surrounded by people from various places and fields. The fact that I got to learn and grow with not only students from business school but from various other schools at JGU as well, gave my learning a true multi-disciplinary meaning. My roommate was from law school, my peers at Rotaract represented all other schools of JGU and this helped me get perspectives from so many people and from so many different fields that has helped me make better and more informed decisions.
I had got so many opportunities in the first two years that I didn’t know what more to ask for. But yet again next year came with the next set of opportunities. I became the Secretary of Rotaract Club and the Class Representative of my class. The initial years had helped me develop people skills and the last year helped me develop leadership skills.
As if that weren’t enough, in the last semester I got the opportunity to go on a semester exchange to one of the best B-Schools, Kelley School of Business, USA. I believe this was the opportunity to put to test my learning at JGU. There I got to learn from the best of faculty and with students from across the world. The informal and activity-based classrooms gave me the opportunity to express my thoughts freely and develop a much broader perspective on things.
I believe, my journey at JGU has transformed me from being a sincere student to this confident and independent person who is now capable of building her life on her own.
