The central government has decided to allot Rs 10 crore to Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) for expansion and upgradation of its incubation hub.

NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog, the central government’s policy think-tank has decided to grant IIMB’s NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL), the incubation and entrepreneurship centre, Rs 10 crore as a scale-up support.

“In addition to helping start-ups, we will be using these funds to help SMEs and family businesses professionalize and scale their operations. In addition to incubation facilities, we plan to train entrepreneurs by using a blended learning approach, which uses both online and offline classroom training. Since IIMB already has over 20 online courses, it would be easy for NSRCEL to reach out to a large number of ventures,” Suresh Bhagavatula, Chairperson, Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Development, NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore said.

NSRCEL is one of the six incubation centres in India to receive financial aid under the Atal Innovation Mission, the union government's endeavour to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship by serving as a platform for promotion of world-class innovation hubs, start-up businesses and other self-employment activities.

NITI Aayog received 232 entries from all over India under this scheme out of which 17 were shortlisted. Out of those 17, six were finalized after in-depth review.

NSRCEL was set up in the year 2002 with a vision to train and assist young entrepreneurs in setting up their business ventures.

The centre currently offers two programmes, Management Programme For Women Entrepreneurs and Management Programme For Entrepreneurs And Family Businesses.
