Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT Chennai) is a private institute, located in Kilpauk, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It has four campuses in Kilpauk, Tidel Park, Kalpakkam, and Vizag. Established in 1998, HIMT is the only Institute in India to offer the maximum courses (90+) approved by the DG of Shipping. The institute is affiliated with the Indian Maritime University. HIMT Chennai is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and the Ministry of Shipping (Government of India) with a sanctioned intake of 60 students for each course.

For Motor/Steam :
- 36Months as Engineer officer on watch which shall include 12Months as holder of COC as MEO Class II and
- 36Months shall be reduced to 24Months, if 12Months served as 2nd Engineer officer for Steam/Motor
- The Propelling time must be at least two thirds of the corresponding sea service period.
For Combine (Motor and Steam) :
- 40Months (20 Months Motor + 20Months steam) which shall include not less than 12 months as holder of COC as MEO Class II combined (Steam and Motor) and
- 40Months shall be reduced to 36Months (18Months motor + 18months Steam), if 12 months served as 2nd Engineer officer for Steam/Motor
- The Propelling time must be at least two thirds of the corresponding sea service period
- Non-Indian Participants need to hold a Student Visa to India to undergo the course.
