IIT Bhilai Admission & Application Process 2026
IIT Bhilai admission is generally based on entrance exam scores. Admission in flaghip BTech course is based on JEE Advanced scores. Aspirants have to follow course-specific application process to apply for the preferred programme. Canddates can follow below step-wise IIT Bhilai admission process:
STEP 1: IIT Bhilai Application Process 2026
Aspirants have to apply on the official website of exam conducting body for BTech, MSc and MTech courses. For all other programmes, application forms are available on the institute's website.
- For BTech: Aspirants have to fill out the JEE Main application form via the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,000 and INR 800 for girls.
- For MSc: Aspirants have to fill out the IIT JAM application form. Aspirants have to pay INR 2,000 (INR 1,000 for female of all categories, SC/ ST/ PwD) for one test paper.
- For MTech: Candidates have to apply for GATE via the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in) for MTech. The application fee for boys is INR 2,000 and INR 1,000 for girls. Aspirants also have to apply with COAP registration number on the institute's website for MTech.
- For MTech (Non-COAP): Candidates who are not allotted seat in MTech via COAP can participate in spot rounds. The application form for spot round is available on the institute's website. Students who have completed BTech from IIT with CPI/ CGPA 8.0 do not require GATE score to apply. They can fill out the form on the institute's website. In both the cases, aspirants need to fill the form and attach documents to submit the form via email. The application fees is INR 200 (INR 100 for SC/ ST/ PwD/ female candidates).
- For Executive MTech & PhD: The application form for other courses, such as Executive MTech and PhD are released on the institute's website. Aspirants have to pay INR 200 (INR 100 for SC/ ST/ PwD/ female candidates) for PhD.
STEP 2: IIT Bhilai Cutoff/ Selection
Aspirants need to pass written exam followed by an interaction conducted by IIT Bhilai for admission in Executive MTech course. Admission in PhD course is based on written exam and PI round conducted by the institute.

Aspirants who have appeared for respective entrance exams for BTech, MTech and MSc courses have to score equal or above IIT Bhilai cutoff.
For BTech: JEE Advanced cutoff 2026 is out for IIT Bhilai BTech. The most competitive specialisation was CSE with a closing rank of 8886 for General AI category.
For MSc: IIT JAM scores are considered for admission in MSc. With a closing rank of 800 in IIT Bhilai JAM cutoff 2026, MSc in Mathematics & Computing was the most competitive branch.
For MTech: Students need to check GATE cutoff for admisson in MTech. GATE is not mandatory for IIT graduates. GPAT is also considered for MTech Bioengineering.
STEP 3: Counselling & Seat Allotment
Aspirants are allotted seat in BTech via JoSAA Counselling. In MTech and MSc, seats are allotted via COAP and IIT JAM Counselling (JOAP portal). Aspirants are allotted seats based on their rank. Candidates who are allotted seat have to report at the campus for document verification. Shortlisted aspirants have to pay IIT Bhilai fees to confirm their seat.

IIT Bhilai Seat Reservation Policy

There is no such provision for getting direct admission to any of the IITs including IIT Bhilai. Candidates willing to be admitted must meet the eligibility and selection criteria established by the institute. As per the elgibility criteria released by the IITs, It is mandatory to have minimum 75% marks (65% for reserved category) in class 12 to take admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Candidates should apply for JoSAA conselling only if they fulfill all the conditions of eligibility. However, many institutes admit students on the basis of JEE Main where there is no requirement of minimum marks in class 12.
The first session exam was conducted on January 22, 23, 24, 28 and 29, 2025 (Paper 1), and January 30, 2025 (Paper 2). The second session of JEE Mains was held from April 1 to 8, 2025. The JEE Main 2025 exam date for sessions 1 and 2 can be checked on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
JEE Main result 2024 session 1 has been announced by the NTA. The JEE Main 2024 Result session 1 was released on February 12. NTA has activated the JEE Mains result 2024 link on the official website. Candidates need to login on the official website using their application number and date of birth to check their JEE Mains 2024 result. The score card will have details about the percentile score in all three subjects and the aggregate percentile. The All India Rank of JEE Main 2024 was announced along with session 2 (April) result.
IIT Bhilai MTech Admission 2026
IIT Bhilai MTech admissions are entirely based on GATE scores. Candidates can also apply with a valid GPAT score for MTech in Bioengineering. Moreover, the shortlisted candidates have to apply for COAP Counselling and register on the official website of IIT Bhilai. Aspirants who have graduated from IIT with CPI/ CGPA 8.0 do not require GATE score. Candidates must pass bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or a master's degree in Science or equivalent with first class, 60% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ ST) to apply for MTech.
The total tuition fees of IIT Bhilai MTech is INR 20,000. MTech is a two-year course offered in various specialisations at IIT Bhilai. The major specialisations are given below:

For admission to IIT Bhilai MTech course, students are admitted through a valid GATE score. As per the selection process, candidates must pass graduation with BTech from a recognised board. Further, candidates need to appear for GATE entrance exams and get a qualifying score to get shortlisted for the course. Later on, the final seat allotment is done through COAP Counselling session. Students who are graduated from IIT are exempted from the GATE entrance score requirement.
Note: For MTech, the qualifying candidates have to further apply for COAP and then apply on the official website of IIT Bhilai to proceed to confirm their admission.
