Dear candidate, the subject of Machine Design basically teaches you about the designing fundamentals of various types of machinery across industries. You get to learn about the different ways in which elements can be combined to form an equipment or machine system and get the work done in an effective manner.
The knowledge of this subject is very important for a mechanical engineer as he/she will have to put this to use in the future whenever they enter the workforce as a mechanical engineering professional.
Hope this cleared your doubt. Have a good day.

Hi candidate!
While specific books may vary between IITs, some commonly used books in BTech Mechanical Engineering are as follows:
- “Textbook of Engineering Mechanics” by R.K Bansal
- “Industrial Engineering and Management” by O.P. Khanna
- “Fundamentals of Thermodynamics” by Richard E. Sonntag
- “Mechanical Engineering Design” by Joseph Shigley and Charles Mischke
- “Manufacturing Engineering and Technology” by S. Kalpakjian and S.R. Schmid
Hope it cleared your query. Good day!

ECE courses do offer various electives for you to opt in the both the UG-level and PG-level ECE courses where you get the chance to pick a specific subject that interests you more, is easy-going for you, and in which you can even pursue a specialisation further to tailor your career path in a particular direction.
You can choose to pick a subject according to the specialised field within your broad ECE specialization, which you would like to enter into in the future, where you see yourself as a well-established engineer. For example, in BTech ECE, there are a variety of electives like Embedded Systems, Antenna Design, Fiber-optic communication, VLSI Technology, etc.

The BTech Mechanical Engineering syllabus is not the same across all colleges, as every college committee sets a particular coursework pattern at the start of every academic year to be followed for the respective batch. The syllabus includes some core subjects, interesting electives, and lab work that gives detailed knowledge to the students about the workings of the field.
