IMS BHU Highlights 2025
The Institute of Medical Sciences BHU, was established in the year 1960. It began with 10 departments, with 9 in Modern Medicine and 1 in Indian Medicine. After 3 years of establishment, the Institute began postgraduate medical education as an in-service program by the year 1963. The introduction of a formal training program converted the College of Medical Sciences into the Institute of Medical Sciences by the year 1971.
As per the NIRF 2024, BHU ranks 7 in the Medical category and 17 in the Dental category. It is approved by the Medical Council of India.
IMS has three faculties (Medicine, Ayurveda, and Dental Sciences) and is one of the 6 institutes of Banaras Hindu University. The Institute owns 10 departments of super-specialties, 33 departments of Modern Sciences, 4 departments of Dentistry, and 11 departments of Ayurveda. IMS BHU offers a 4-year UG-level BSc (Nursing) course. It can be challenging to get into IMS BHU for BSc (Nursing), given the fact that the cut-offs are high and the seat intake is 100. Candidates must qualify Class 12 or equivalent with subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English). Candidates must seek the Class 12 qualification from a recognised Board/ University with at least 45% marks and also qualify the entrance exams considered for the admission process by the Institute.
