Shri shikshayatan college review based on campus, faculty, placements, infrastructure etc.

Placements: Many of the students got placed in Delloite and KPMG with a package of 3-4 LPA. Internshala also hires some of the students. We have placement cell too where students are guided in this regard. Yes above 50% students get into top recruiting companies.

Infrastructure: Wi-Fi available. AC classrooms and labs with modern technology and gears. Food availability in canteens is not too pricey for the outstation students. We don't have a hostel in our college but pgs are there near our college. We have green and clean college campus. Whiteboards, projectors are available in each classroom. Monitoring students is the cctvs. Library is huge for one to easily access books on different subjects including story books.

Faculty: The teachers were helpful and supportive during COVID times. Our cllg had made online platform available for our lectures as they groomed us in Imparts e-learning platform. The semester exams are definitely tough as the college comes under University of Calcutta. Pass percentage is on the higher side as well.

Other: Srijan Fest is the one which occurs annually and its arranged by the students around February. Sree, annual art and cuisine fest occurs around may. My love for Chemistry and its different applications in daily life made me fall for this subject. Improvement mainly in our no of teachers to be increased in our faculty and also our dry lab needs to be segregated from our classroom as due to lack of space our classes occur there only. WB scholarship is available for all students. Campus crowd is huge. Extracurricular activities take place whole year. We have dance, drama,. Cricket and basketball clubs. Different college fests come up as well. NSS camps are organised where Students are mentored by teachers.

Placements: Shri Shikshayatan College comes under Calcutta University and is located in Lord Sinha Road, Kolkata. The department of chemistry in this college is quite new compared to commerce and arts departments. It is a small department with not many students. In our batch, 13 students are there. B.Sc. chemistry honours does not have placement opportunities in this college. The placement opportunities are below average here. However, you can apply for internships offered by companies for the other departments. Even the condition of placements is not good and is uncertain.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is quite good and is properly maintained from time to time. The rooms allotted for the chemistry department are quite spacious compared to the number of seats available in this course. The chemistry laboratory is quite well maintained. There are two labs in the department, one is the dry lab and the other one is for experiments involving quantitative analysis. Both the labs have the proper equipment required in the 3-year course of chemistry honours. The college has a big library where strict discipline is maintained, and the use of phones is strictly not allowed in the library. New versions of books are available in the library, and separate sections have been made for each part of chemistry, like physical chemistry, organic and inorganic. If not returned within 10 days, fine is charged accordingly. Classrooms have projectors which are mostly used by the teachers for teaching. The campus has AC, so all the classrooms have AC and are maintained regularly. There is a canteen in the college which has a pocket-friendly menu for students. The price ranges from 40 to 200, and it includes eateries like pasta, sandwich, Maggi etc. The quality of food is good, and the quantity is also justifiable according to the price. But the major problem is that the canteen remains full most of the time, and hence, not everybody gets a chance to have food in short breaks. There is a gym room which has basic workout equipment like a treadmill and some leg exercise equipment. A table tennis board is also available. The room is used by the students as a common room. A yoga room is also available. The college has a big auditorium of its own which is used by the students during farewell and fresher's events.

Faculty: The teachers for this course are well qualified and are very supportive of students. They are knowledgeable and are friendly with students. There are different teachers for all three parts of chemistry. The mode of teaching includes English and Bengali languages. The teaching quality is good, and the teachers interact with the students during teaching. B.Sc. Chemistry Honours is a course that is good for students who are interested in knowing chemistry deeply. The subject is quite different compared to other subjects as one needs to work in chemistry labs with proper precautions. Overall, the course is good to study. The passing percentage of students in this course in this college is very good. Almost all students pass, and the semester exams are moderate in difficulty level.

Other: The best thing about this course is that you get to learn about chemicals and get the opportunity to handle chemicals in the lab and do experiments. One thing I wish that could be improved is that students are divided into groups in the Chemistry labs and then made to do the experiments. Not every student gets the chance to do the experiment effectively and completely. A group of 2 is okay, but a group of 4 or 5 reduces the chances of gaining practical knowledge for each student in the chemistry lab. Lots of events are held from time to time in the college. There are departmental events, and specifically in the chemistry department, there are not many events. Sharing of the research experience is done with the students by teachers, where the teachers share their research works. Since the chemistry department is very small in this college, there is nothing much to explore in the field of events within this department. However, you can take part in events where students can participate irrespective of the course. There is NSS and LTS groups in the college, which you can join in the 1st year of your college life. Annual sports and annual functions are held in the college. The location of the college is quite enjoyed by students as the area has many restaurants and cafes around where you can go in breaks and have a fun time with your friends.

My life at shri shikshayatan college.

Placements: Our professors helped us by giving information about companies hiring freshers. The placement cell is quite good with top companies like deloitte, wipro, tcs coming to hire during our 5th semester onwards. As most of us opt for further studies the professors help us in career guidance, and conducts regular mentor-mentee session 4th semester onwards.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good, with gyms room, game rooms, yoga and curricular activity rooms. The washrooms are very clean and hygienic. We have a big playground where fests and events are conducted. Apart from this, we have two libraries with a huge collections of books. The canteen is clean and large and serves hot and fresh foods and beverages. The classrooms have AC and digital presentation boards.

Faculty: The professors are very helpful and clear our doubts with care. All of the professors holds a Ph.D. degree and are wery professional in their career. They provides us with assignments, notes and conducts interactive sessions and tests to help us prepare for the semester exams. They help us in hands on practical classes and the lab attendent teachers are experienced in their fields and helps make us industry ready.

Other: Regular events, seminars are conducted along with social services such as blood donation camps etc. The college office has scholarship facilities like svmcm, kanyashree, etc. There is a lot of eateries outside the campus and shopping malls and markets nearby. The location is commute- friendly as there is metro station in just 3mins walking distance.
