Mystory@Pragati Choudhary: How I chose my course and college
When I was in Class 10, I wanted to pursue science. I wanted to become an engineer because machines used to excite me. But then my mother thought that I’ll not be able to cope with Science in Class 11 and 12 and so I did not opt for Science. I was never fond of Social Science, so, eventually like most of my cousins, I took up Commerce. I had no clue about the subject in this stream. Later in Class 11 and 12, I was clueless about my future as I could not develop interest in my subjects of study.
I used to sketch a lot. In my Boards I managed to score average marks. Then I told my parents I wanted to do Fashion Designing. By that time I had already filled forms for CPT and I was very late for filling NIFT Entrance Exam form. So I cleared my CPT and then convinced my parents that I wanted to do Fashion Designing. For the next 6-8 months I prepared really hard for my NIFT Entrance Exam. And here I am today in the college that I wanted to be and the department of my choice. I secured 503 rank in NIFT exam.
How I cracked college admission
After my boards and CPT, I started preparing for NIFT Entrance Exam at PRIME along with my BCom. I used to sketch daily. Earlier, I never used to read newspapers but then my instructors at PRIME ensured that I read one newspaper daily.
At my coaching class, I solved many sample papers and gave many mock tests before appearing for the entrance exam for NIFT admissions. I only wanted to join NIFT and no other college was on my list. The two options before me where – either clearing this entrance with a good rank or continuing with BCom (in which I had no interest). So, basically I didn’t try for admission in any other college apart from NIFT.
My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more
My college life is very happening. It is the life I always wanted to live. At my college – the environment, the people, the faculty members, the course, the subjects taught and everything else is just amazing.
College not only gave me an opportunity to make my dreams come true, it also gave me an opportunity to develop my personality. And here, I am not talking about dancing and other sports activities that happen at our college. Before entering college, I was an introvert, and it’s been just 8 months at NIFT Kolkata and I can say that I’m not the same timid girl anymore.
Life at NIFT is not only about designing, it’s about doing anything and everything that you love. I still remember the first day when I entered this college; people were sitting on the stairs, painting and working on their assignments, few others were singing and having a gala time. The environment at my college is such that it feels like home.
