The MFTech programme will teach the student about the apparel manufacturing industry,  including the various operations and processes involved. The programme will also impart managerial concepts linked to operations.

The B.F.Tech,2 entrance exam for M.F.Tech comprises two stages:

• Stage 1 - The candidate appears in the General Aptitude Test (GAT); It is a written test.
• Stage 2 - The admission committee will conduct a Personal Interview and Group Discussion round for shortlisted candidates.

The final merit list for the M.F.Tech programme will be prepared by giving 70% weightage to the GAT written test and 30% weightage to the GD/PI.

The admission process to an M.F.Tech programme comprises the following steps:

1. Fill in the application form - The application form for the NIFTs will commence sometime around the 1st week of November. The candidate needs to duly fill the form and submit it before the last date. 
2. Appear in the entrance exam - The National Institute of Fashion Technology will conduct the written exam for NIFT around the 1st week of February.
3. Declaration of results - The results of the written exam will be used to shortlist candidates for a personal interview.
4. Publication of final merit list - The final results would be published by considering the performance of the candidate in the written exam and personal interview.
5. Allotment of seats - The allotment of seats will be based on the merit rank of the candidate in the NIFT exam and NIFTs selected (and their order of priority).

In case of the B. Des and B.FTech programmes, the candidates should be less than 24 years as on July 1 of the admission year. There is relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories. However, there is no age limit for applying to the postgraduate programmes at NIFT. When applying for admission to design courses at the NIFTs, the candidate must also carefully go through the academic requirements. Note that even if a candidate qualifies the NIFT Entrance Exam but doesn't meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, he or she will not be considered for admission.

An MDes (Master of Design) program is focused on creative and critical design solutions, that prepares students for roles like Designers, Visual Merchandisers, and Product Managers, etc., while an MFTech (Master of Fashion Technology) course contains the technical and managerial elements of the fashion industry, training students for job roles in Apparel Manufacturing, Quality Management, and Production Management.
